- Exclusive RESIDENT EVIL 6 Updates: Tentatively Titled RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER, Planned as the Last Film, and First Draft Is Currently Being Written

Steve recently landed an exclusive interview with Anderson, who revealed that he’s currently in the midst of writing the first draft for Resident Evil 6, which is tentatively titled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Yes, it appears that the series is indeed coming to a close. Hit the jump for much more.

paul-w-s-anderson-resident-evil-6Though there were previously rumors that Resident Evil 6 would be in theaters as soon as September 2014, that is obviously not the case as production hasn’t even begun yet. Anderson told us that he’s currently in the middle of writing the script, and revealed the tentative titled for what’s shaping up to be the concluding chapter of the series:

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title. It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script... I’m right in the middle of [the first draft].”

Though the film is certainly a “go”, Anderson said they haven’t yet set a production start-date:

“There are no set dates for shooting yet. I think we’re waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.”

As for the release date, that’s apparently dependent upon when the script is finished as well:

“I don’t know [when it will be in theaters], depends how fast I write, I guess. There’s no set date yet but hopefully we’ll have an announcement for that soon.”

milla-jovovich-resident-evil-6The title of the film would seem to imply that this the end for Resident Evil as a film series, and Steve asked Anderson if the filmmaker is writing the script as if it’s the concluding chapter:

“That’s what’s on the title page, it’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, so absolutely.”

A film series as contentious as it is entertaining. The consummate guilty pleasure, snubbing beloved tropes of the games to build a tangentially related, action oriented film franchise. It's been a periodic constant throughout MKO's lifespan. A conversation topic is inevitable.

Anderson talks more about the sixth film in the full Collider interview. Well worth checking out if you're interested at picking through it. They look back as well as forward, discussing the progress of the series and the trials and tribulations of the original film(s).

The one good thing that can come from this movie is it ends the series so it can get rebooted as horror.

These movies are good fun and I love Milla Jovovich but it had to end at some point I guess.
I like the title as "RE: The Final Chapter" rather than "RE: Rising" that was floating around.
All I want to see is more monsters, awesome fight scenes and a nice clean wrap up to the story.

Masturbatory shite x: how we can pretend this actually has relevance when the source material stopped having relevance.

Seriously, Resident Evil is a joke. A very bad one and one that is not funny. However it is truly awe inspiring how some people can furhter go down the drain when the games story is written by some flipper-handed freak with lobotomy issues.

Silent Hill fared better a little longer. There are no horror franchises right that could be considered leading then genre.

Last one though so no more Milla Jovovich movies after this.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
until Ultraviolet 2 is announced.

The "cliffhanger" endings are getting a bit boring, so having a proper finish will be good. Even though i really like this series, (b/c i understand it has really moved away from original source material and exists as its own canon), I'm happy to see they've decided to stop running it into the ground completely.

- Milla Jovovich Confirms August Start for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Last August, actress Milla Jovovich announced that she and her husband Paul W.S. Anderson were expecting their second child together, thus delaying the shooting of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Now she has taken to Facebook (tip of the hat to Bobby Napoli) with word that she is already preparing to return as Alice for the revived shoot in August.

Says Jovovich, “I’m really proud of myself for not gaining the same amount of weight that I did with our first child (75 lbs.) because I have to be ready to start filming ‘Resident Evil- The Final Chapter’ in August of this year and I will also be nursing an infant simultaneously.”

Shooting was initially being prepped for Cape Town, South Africa, which will be one of several locales used for the sixth and (supposed) last part in the long-running Resident Evil franchise. The last film to see release was Resident Evil: Retribution in 2012.

Targeting a September 2, 2016 release date, Anderson returns for his fourth outing as director and writer of the Screen Gems release Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, with actor Wentworth Miller reprising his role as Chris Redfield from 2010′s Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Even though they have strayed away from the horror the original games had (Said can be said about the most recent games lol) I still genuinely enjoy the movie series, hope it's good :)
