Same race couples in fiction
WARNING: What I'm about to say might sound prejudiced toward a certain group of people. Or many. But I assure you, I am not racist, sexist or homophobic. It'd be best to stop reading if you are easily offended, or cannot be bothered to read long posts. Do not claim I didn't warn you.
Now, there's something I find annoying about same race couples (black men and black women, for instance) in fiction. Especially when it comes to minorities.
When it comes to interracial couples in the media, black men + white women seems like the most common one. I've frequently heard that white men/Asian women is as common a combo if not more so than BM/WW, but I seldom see it.
There seems to be this insistence that women of color should exclusively hook up with men of their own race. However, it is apparently more acceptable for non-white men, blacks especially, to be paired with white women.
I have no problem with people of the same ethnicity being together. But I cannot help but feel, when watching TV shows or movies, that I'm being frequently told that, as a white man, I shouldn't hook up with non-white women. That they're off-limit. But men of color can have them along with white women. Caucasian gals are pretty much treated as the best kind of girls guys of any races would want. They also get to play main characters.
I've seen plenty of beautiful black women appearing only as extras, while ugly white ones are shoved down my throat. White women this, white women that. I do not hate white women. But I must admit the media makes it so tempting. It sometimes makes me eager to see black women get the upper hand on them (white women). To be favored over them, to hook up with white men, to the cries of racist and hypocritical black men everywhere (not just them, mind you, but all prejudiced twats), whose existence is rarely acknowledged. Racism being exclusively a white, male thing, according to the media.
Believe me though, It annoys me to to be made to feel that way. I love to laugh at racists of all ethicities and both genders. I love to hate them. I've been attracted to countless white girls over the years. I just have a hard time trusting producers, writers etc not to enforce what I'm criticising. With me, a Latino and and Latina in a movie could hook up without seeming discriminatory to white men and non-white women who love them.
This had been on my mind for quite a while. Again, I do not mean to offend people of any races or either genders, and I'm sorry if I did. The media just frustrates me, that's all.

I see what you're saying. Media is not the best place for that info.
I've met (to my surprise) a high number of WM/BW couples. It's awesome!
I look forward to the day where we all love each other regardless of ethnicity.
On the subject of racism, I urge people to stop with "African American, Mexican American" and all that shit. We ate simply Americans. I was born here and I know nothing of Africa. If it comes down to it, just label me as black.
If you touch my hair, label me Dominican.

I'm not sure what "interracial media conspiracy" you're referring to but I certainly see tv shows/movies with black women dating white men. Certainly more than there was in the past. The movie "Guess Who" comes to mind. Zoe Saldana for whatever reason seems to be cast opposite white men as her love interests in a lot of her movies probably because of her ambiguous ethnicity. She's actually Dominican/Puerto Rican but gets cast as black as much as she does hispanic and latino roles. Also, here's a comprehensive list of films involving a romantic relationship with a black woman and a white man. So yeah...basically...I'm not sure what you're on about OP.

I'm white with a black girlfriend. It doesn't make a difference.

It always bugged me in commercials how this ALWAYS happens:
Three guys hanging out, one of them is black. Three hot chicks approach them, one of them is black. The black man and woman obviously end up toghether.
Really!?!?!? REALLY!?!? Of all the combinations, its a one-to-one. God forbid a black man ends up with a white girl in a commercial! or viceversa!
the fact that this situation soooo artificial really bugs me. Its like they go out of their way to show how interracial couples are not normal. STUPID!

That list could make me reconsider my opinion, but I do not feel I've been proven completely and utterly wrong.
Here's a few things that could help your argument. First, mostly mention movies where a black woman is either the main character or the co-star. Not a secondary or minor character. Which also means that secondly, sex scenes with no romantic angle do not count. The people on that site were kind enough to point out that many of these wm/bw "couples" were more based on sex than love.
I admit I haven't searched all those movies yet, but many of those I did look up featured white women in lead roles, and black ones in secondary or minor ones. I am trying not to resent white women, or rather the love for them, but damn. Still, I'll eventually look up more of these movies.
Thirdly, the black women have to, you know, look completely black. I do not feel that Mariah Carey counts. I'm fine with them being secondary in that case as long as they look black, and are indeed in a romantic relationship with a white man. "American Flyers" is a great example of that.
Zoe Saldana's ambiguous ethnicity highlights yet another problem with white male audiences. She's someone racist white pricks can pretend is at least partially white. Hell, there are some black men who'd also like her for that same reason. I'm not mad at her though, it's not her fault mainstream audiences are full of complete idiots who'd like her mostly for any "white" characteristics she might have.
Finally, if you do not think there is any attempts by the media to denounce interracial relationships between white men and non-white women, even subtly, then you're a little naive. Because to me it's like the sex issue in America. Yes, there is this obsession with sex. But that doesn't mean that the media is void of puritanical bullshit. Another example are strong women. Women are more respected now in the media than they were in the past, undoubtedly, but that doesn't mean there is no subtle misogyny in certain movies, games, comics, etc. Not that the opposition to white men/non-white women is that subtle compared to the other two examples, but it's not that explicit either.
I think it can be said that the media, in it's attempts at simplifying everything, might have ironically become complex itself. There are those movies you've brought up, but WM/BW couples are also still condemned subtly. Seemingly more than BM/WW ones. At least in my experience.
Honestly OP if your whole point is that "I'm trying not to hate white women" then you have more issues than this "white media conspiracy". You can certainly make an argument that major Hollywood releases discriminate and pander to target audience demographics when casting non-whites as leads in general and thus, interracial romantic relationships remain largely unexplored on screen. To somehow qualify that as justifying "hating white women" has everything to do with you and very little with the movies. If you want to hate anything, you should hate the business machine that churns out flow-chart Hollywood movies.

Thats cause most cultures are obsessed with ethnic categorization. Its stupid. Like, is Tiger Woods asian or black? Both! easy! but no, they have to check one box. In countries like Brazil where iterracial relationships are WAAAY more common they dont have such a tendency to try to categorize. I'm i'm pretty sure brazilians are so good-looking because they have a lot of variety in their genetic pool.

People don't like "change" or things that are different. Poeple like what's comfortable, and stay with their own kind. I don't care about interracial couples.
I like White, Asian, Arab and Thai women. I don't know why, but I can't stand Black women, they're ugly, imo. For whatever reason, black women just really turn me off. I don't even like sun tans. Which is wierd, cause I can tolerate dark Arab/Thai chicks. Maybe it's that "exotic" look about them.
I don't hate black men though, just the women. I've experienced many positive black rolemodels like James Earl Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, and LeVar Burton,
but you don't have to take my word for it...

My doctor was born in Africa, and later became an American citizen. Even though she is white, she's still "African American." I know a black girl, however, that was born in this country and has never been to Africa but still is "African American".
There's a difference between being "Indian American" and an "American Indian."
With so many confusing terms about race, it's no wonder people in this country are confused by race! We should all just call each other "human"

I already do that, but for a different reason...
God created "Man". What is this "Hu" Man? Does it mean the "hue" of man?
What is the obsession with categorizing everything? And in Latin?

Maybe black women turn you off because you're insanely racist?

I may be insane, but technically that's a gender bias. I hold no malice against black people, the only race I hate is the Human race.

No really man,
all that is pretty racist. I even lol'd at the last one, which to me was the reason for the insaness of it all. Whether you mean to or not you're saying:
-All black women are ugly. Even if you said black women in general are ugly it would still be racist. Generalizing an entire race of people is racist. I think black women being a "turn off" to you isn't merely a physical preference like preferring tits over ass, but rather emblematic of a larger social issue.
-by saying you "tolerate" dark Arab/Thai chicks for their "exotic" features you are perpetuating inequality by creating a hierarchy of beauty where white features are at the top. You are basically saying a little ethnicity in one's appearance is ok, but too many ethic features is somehow a bad thing.
-treating black celebrities as if they are the spokesmen for the black community is also generalizing and really kind of a stupid thing to do. The reason why you don't hate black men should be that such a hate is irrational and wrong, not because Samuel L. Jackson was badass in Pulp Fiction or because everything Morgan Freeman says automatically sounds 110% scientifically true.
-Lastly, while not liking peoples tans is certainly not racist in of itself, to me it sounds like you are uncomfortable with dark skin in general unless it is foreign or "exotic" which somehow makes it okay. Like racially ethnic people are ugly without the backing of a different country/culture to explain the difference in their physical appearance.
I'm sorry to nit pick your post and be all politically correct and what not, I just honestly think your heads in the wrong place. I'm also really, REALLY bored., which is why im breaking down your post like its literature.

There are tons of beautiful black men. If I was gay or female, it wouldn't matter where my partner's DNA originated. I'm just not attrcacted to black women. Thank you for challenging my brain, now that I think about it, Ashley on Fresh Prince(Tatiyana Ali), and Raven(That's so Raven) were pretty cute.
Sun tans just look rediculous, and they're dangerous.
