This is absolutely shocking news. I was watching the news report on it all morning, some of the witness recolections were just so sad to here. Apparently the same guy (or his associates) set off a bomb at a government building in Oslo. It's terrible that in this day and age there are many many extremists. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed.

The most shocking thing about this tragedy is that it was a one-in-a-million chance incident for Norway.

Their generations of near-perfect peace has been destroyed.

Not only do family members need to mourn for their loss, but they must live through the fact that the man will only be in jail for 21 years; the maximum sentence in Norway.

What does one say in a situation like this? I could give my condolences, but does that really matter? It's obvious I feel that this is a disgusting act of violence. Sometimes silence in the presence of death is more appropriate than saying something, especially if the deceased is someone you don't know.

Celebrities are so well-known that it feels like you know them personally, so it's easier to say something about them.

Regardless, my best goes out to the victim's families.

In Switzerland and Finland you'd only get 20 years for this and after 15 years you'd be able to get free with a new identity if you acted nice, IIRC.

While I admire Norway's incredible prison system, sometimes, you just have to lock a man away for the rest of his life.

Terrorism can be political or religious, it is not exclusively tied to one or the other. There are political organizations that use radical and violent tactics to effect change and they have no religious over or undertones, but are terorist organizations regardless.

The death count has been lowered to 76, some of the victims being spared from death. 68 people died in the island and eight in the bomb incident.
