For all the Slayer fans here who don't know yet, Slayer will be releasing a new DVD titled "Reign In Blood Live: Still Reigning". The scheduled release date is on September 28, 2004. Now here's the part that Slayer fans will love; this will be the FIRST SLAYER DVD to feature the ORIGINAL SLAYER LINE-UP, Dave Lombardo included (as many of us already know, he rejoined Slayer as a temporary replacement for Paul Bostaph in 2002 until a permanent replacement could be found, only to become that permanent replacement last year). Now here's the details:
This DVD will be directed by Dean Karr, (who directed Iron Maiden's Rock In Rio performance and Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" video), and was set to be shot on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME. Did the shooting for this DVD go as scheduled? We'll have to wait and see.
Now for the real dirt about this new DVD. What will we be seeing? And why does the title include "Reign In Blood" when an album by that same title was released 18 years ago? I think we can answer both questions in the same sentence. What you will be seeing on this DVD is the original line-up of Slayer performing all 28 minutes of Reign In Blood in its entirety, just like they did at last Fall's Jagermeister Tour to finish their sets, and the reason for this is because, as bassist/vocalist Tom Araya put it, "'Reign in Blood' is our signature record, and if people think that it helped set the path for that genre of music, thats great." A total of ten cameras, including three hand-held mini-DV's, will be used to capture Slayer throughout the day and evening, filming an abundance of footage and interviews backstage, on the band's tour bus, and live onstage.
Now here's where it gets really interesting; the band will attempt to revisit the look and feel of the time. The band will be using a special "Reign In Blood" backdrop and has recreated some of the original stage banners from the mid-80's "Reign In Blood"-era tour dates, which will incorporate the Slayer eagle (I think the pentagram logo will be included on that) and the VERY controversial upside-down crosses that are part of the lighting rig. Expect to see some special onstage surprises. I kinda expect Kerry King to wear the spikes on his left arm again, as he still does every now and then. I'd be surprised, though, if I saw Kerry King wearing a wig to try and recreate his image from 1986 when he still had hair. It would probably be no use even trying to wear a wig though, because the way he headbangs onstage could cause whatever wig he's wearing to fly right off that bald tattooed head of his.
Slayer fans, this is the video you have been waiting for. Their first home video, Live Intrusion, was released when Paul Bostaph was Slayer's drummer, and he was in it. Slayer's second home video, their first released on DVD format, last year's War At The Warfield, was released while Dave Lombardo was Slayer's drummer, but it still had Paul Bostaph behind the kit. Now, this new DVD to be released later this year will be a first for Dave Lombardo as Slayer's drummer.

That is good news, man.
I don't know if I'll have the cash when it does finally come out, but I'll definitely keep a look out for it, man.
Lombardo is also good news. I was never really clear on why he left the band(perhaps he was kicked out).

**Tear rolls down cheek**
Ok seriously though, IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!! Just watched Metallica's "Cliff Em All" last night (only because it's footage of when they were still good
) and the topic of what bands deserve DVD's and someone mentioned Slayer. And boom, they're making a DVD. This one will go good right up there next to my Pantera's Vulgar Video Collection, Fear Factory's Digital Connectivity, Pearl Jam Live at the Garden, and Dream Theater's Live in New York. Can't wait for this one.

It started out on the Reign In Blood tour. Dave Lombardo was kinda feeling left out and crap like that. So he left the band in 1986. His replacement was Tony Scaglione. However, Scaglione wasn't the right one to fill in such big shoes, so he left, and Lombardo rejoined the band shortly thereafter. Towards the end of 1991/start of 1992 however, Kerry, Jeff, and Tom's problems with Dave escalated so much that they fired him. Their reason for kicking him out of the band was because he spent more time with his wife than with the band, did not practice, and had a back injury. All three factors seriously affected his drumming skill. Towards the end of 1996, Slayer history again repeated itself. Paul Bostaph, Dave's replacement, left Slayer to start a side project. His replacement was Testament's John Dette. However, Kerry, Jeff, and Tom did not get along with John Dette, so once John Dette left, the rest of the band learned that Paul Bostaph quit his "side project", and offered him to rejoin Slayer. He accepted. The rest of the drummer shit going on with Slayer, you already know.
And skeletonofsociety, Slayer in fact did release their first DVD last year. That was War At The Warfield. It was recorded December 7, 2001 in San Francisco at the Warfield Theater, on the last tour with Paul Bostaph.
