There is a rumour going around that Sony and Microsoft may consider using Download Disribution for the PS3 and XBox2, for those that don't know what it is, instead of going to a store to buy your games you pay for them using your credit card and then download them via websites to the respective systems Hard drives, this would be from either the game companies themselves or the Sony/Microsoft sites.

Of course this would be broadband only, but i still see a couple of problems with this, one is time, i dont know about you guys but i dont want to wait for a game thats going to be a few gig in size to download, and nothing has been said as to wether the downloads would be compacted in anyway, also what if something went wrong with the download would you be able to try again?, but the big thing that bothers me the most is Hard disk space, your going to need one hell of a lot of space if your planning on keeping the games, at least with DVD roms your not taking up space and can keep them as long as you like, not only that but updates and other downloadables would need space as well, i'm hoping this is just a rumour and not something that will be fact, but what do the rest of you think would you rather download your games or have it stay as it is and go to a store?.

I'm sure if this was to be implemented it would be an option, not mandatory. It sounds like a good idea if they make the hard drives large enought but even then i have over 50 games for my PS2. And then just like your Pc or Mac, when you get it close to capacity, would your PS3 or Xbox2 begin to load slower?

And even more over not everyone has credit cards at their disposal.

So I definately would NOT like to see this take place. Although it would cut down on software piracy until somebody figures out a way to get them off the hard drive and burn them, which prolly wouldn't be long at all. I'm content on walking into the store and buying it and having a pretty little case and a pretty little manual.

Not to mention a lot of retail gaming stores like EB and Gamestop could go out of business.

Also, not everyone who plays video games has an internet connection...
