Americans are now required to have insurance or pay a penalty. It will take effect in 2014. Mitt Romney is objecting Obamacare and says he will do what justice didn't do if elected president. Mittens then presumably rode off in the Batmobile

I'm not sure how I feel about it. For me this is great news. As a type 1 diabetic and a person who owns limited health insurance it's quite a drag paying $160 a month just so I can only pay half for my medication. Which means I can explore cheaper options if I want to. On the other hand, I feel like mandating healthcare across the country is gonna be a major pain in the ass for those that can't handle paying expensive premiums (and a lot of healthcare programs can make you pay out the nose).

I'm not complaining though, this is a major victory for me. Hopefully the proposals in that plan (sliding scale premium from up to 150%-400% poverty line) is seen through and not neglected, though this is politics and we all know Murphy's law has been the only consistent thing in politics for years.

I had to pay for something before, I have to pay for something now, and I'll have to pay for something later.

Doesn't matter what's done, I'll still be paying.

Exactly. And you have to admire how pretentious these people are with their comments.

I'm moving to Canada. Obviously the United States doesn't know what they are doing anymore. This used to be a great country... Pretty sad.

XD

I'm moving to Canada, the United States is entirely too socialist.

Oh God lol

This might be one of the most hilarious things I've read all day. Thanks for posting it!!

The funny thing is that when the individual points of the Affordable Health Care Act are given to people, an overwhelming majority of Americans (and even Muricans lol) are in favor of them. But when you ask them what they think of Obamacare, a lot of people seem to hate it.

Hilarious. It just goes to show you that when you stay on message and drill that message in to people's minds, that anything can be made to sound horrible.

I'm still in awe though at the fact that Chief Justice Roberts of all people was the deciding vote. I guess people can still surprise you! grin

It's just become the vernacular for the Affordable Health Care Act. I hate it as well. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me and I hate that the conservative propoganda machine took something that has so many good things in it, renamed it and then stuck on message so much that they basically forced people in to hating something that many don't even understand.

Very frustrating.

I hope they enjoy the socialized medicine!
also normally I would detest anyone who uses the term Obamacare, but Obama seems to like it, because he says yes he does care.
by the way...the mandate was Mitts idea in the first place, you know, because it forces people to buy corporate health insurance.

this is an entirely political move by the justice. it has nothing to do with the healthcare law.
no matter how massively "conservative" his votes are from now on, this ONE vote will make him look moderate in the history books, even though he is not.

This bill sounds pretty awesome; are you saying that the only reason people are getting upset about it is because now they must buy insurance prior to any sicknesses or serious conditions arising?
I'd write *face-palm*, but my head hurts from doing it so much...

The new healthcare system is designed to penalize those who do not have health insurance with a tax.

Incidentally, most Americans cannot afford health insurance, which leads people to believe this penalty is just another way for the government to raid their pockets.

While I do applaud the system's denouncing of insurance companies rejecting people with pre-existing conditions, and its aid to assist those who cannot pay their medical expenses, penalizing them because they can't pay is completely unfair.

I'd rather they simply mandate a cheaper set price for health insurance, or at least mandate full coverage of certain surgeries, like brain surgery or heart transplants.

I don't know that I'd put it in such cynical terms as being designed to raid the pockets of those who can't (or don't) pay for insurance, but certain aspects of the bill do seem intent on the people paying to keep other people healthy.

It doesn't fully penalize people for not being able to afford it, as there are subsidies that will allow those near the poverty line to at least get Medicaid. You can't mandate cheaper premiums because then it would limit choices on insurance - the smaller firms would go bankrupt. I do agree with the surgery point though.

I don't think that is the case, because virtually all of the people who can afford health insurance have it, and that is quite a small percentage of people.

If the fee is only being imposed on those who can afford health insurance, then the fee is pointless.
