IGN revealed some new information on some sony hardware. (Vertically) The new PS2 is about as wide as 2.5 memory cards and about as tall as the old PS2 from the bottom to the PS logo. It has online connections built in. The weight is also half. Bad news is according to IGN, some software will not be compatible (anything that requires the HDD since there's no room for it in the new PS2. The artical is here:

The brief artical on PS3 can also been seen here although the only new information is that it will indeed use Blu-Ray discs, but be able to play DVD and CDs as well:

The PS3 using Blue ray technology isn't new. That was mentioned a while back. Can't wait to see what the next-next gen systems can handle.

+ Cool look compare to the older version, smaller and lighter.
+ the PS2 is an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming, removing a consumer's need to purchase a separate Network Adaptor to go online
- Not really useful for those who already own a PS2
- It cannot use the Hard Drive (HDD) needed for games such as Final Fantasy XI, and well, Final Fantasy Xi's expansion packs. It has also been confirmed that some software will not be compatible with the new unit, but what those titles are have not been revealed.

Is that what they were talking about certain software not being compatable? I've been considering getting a new ps2 since my old one doesn't work anymore...
I think the built in online thing is cool. As long as it has a CAT-5 connection i'd be happy cuz it will save me a few bucks. Time to bring the old piece o junk back to gamestop! My friend's ps2 had the same problem (no games, cds, or dvds played) and gamestop gave him $80 for it!
$150 doesn't sound too bad, but i'll wait and see if the oldstyle price drops...
Thanks for the news guys!

Looks like crap! Too damn small if you ask me. Like you say, useless to those of us who have a PS2 already.

While yes it has been mentioned, I don't believe it was ever confirmed (although it only made sense)

I knew it was possible, considering that only half of the PS2's body is really used for hardware. I know lots of things that are going to happen, or so easy to make, before they come out...0_o *really, I've predicted lots of crap, but those damn marketing spies are fucking everywhere* lol

Not really dude. It saves a helluv'alot more space. I have my original PS2 and I have some weird feeling that it's too big

I have my original PS2 and I have some weird feeling that it's too big I'd rather have the small one since it takes full advantage of all the space it has inside of it. In my post before this I mentioned that only half of the PS2's original body was used, and it's all because of that *separate*(aka, you have to buy it with a price of it's own!?) HDD that is only used for like one game. I really like the small PS2...alot. Wonder how small the original Xbox can get? |
my question is, what's the point? ik they did this with the first Playstation, making the PSone, but Sony's releasing the PSP, working on the PS3, and (idk if they still are) doing that PS2/media box thing...
shouldn't they just focus on releasing one successful piece of hardware at a time? one that doesn't have tons of glitches and better quality parts? do we really need a PStwo? logic aside, it looks cool

I guess we need the PStwo like we needed the PSone. I don't follow console sales, but perhaps they were slipping and they wanted to throw some incentive for people to buy a ps2 because its now the most compact next gen system out. Now they should have made it come with a removable screen and a battery pack and we'd all have our psp right there.

You forgot the very useless PSX(not the original PS1, it's something very different).
It's just another way to attract sales. It's Sony, they are in the position to pull a ploy like this.

isnt the original PS2 gonna get a price drop soon as well while the pstwo will be $150 still?

actually, the PSX is what i meant by the PS2/media box thingy...
and also, i realize they're in the position to be able to do this and still make ridiculous profit... for a minute there i actually thought Sony wouldn't choose to make dollars over sense (forgive the pun)
