I agree with SNAKE_EATER that this thread might get closed, but if it doesn't, it'll be neat to see how many responses this thread gets.

I miss the old WCW don't get me wrong. I think just about all wrestling fans do. However, I miss the old WCW pre-1999, because it was in that year, that Vince Russo came on board and basically helped kill a great company. He did do a few good things, that Triple Cell match was a cool idea, one I hope Vinnie Mac uses one day, but I drew the line when he gave himself, as well as David Aurcette (Spelling??) the World title. Too me that was a slap in the face to all teh great WCW champions. Also, when he humiliated Hulk Hogan at a ppv (btw, it was unscripted), that was also a disgrace.

I miss the old WCW days when the NWO first came out. Everybody I know was talking about what happened this week and wondering what would happen next week. Good times.

What I miss the most about WCW is Raven (classic Raven that sat back in the crowd and watch matches along ringside) and the Flock.

Can anyone tell me if they remember a wrestler called TARZAN TABORDA? I heard he was a wrestler back in WCW (or was it in the WWF?), but I can't find jack info on him.

This proved to the world that wrestling times were changing, if it hadn't have been for WCW and Bischoff, we would still be here with only wrestling without the hype, cut-throat tactics and marketing that it has today.

Actually, the best weeks in WCW history, were when they were beatting WWF/E 82 weeks in a row!!grin

I admit that Russo did some good for WCW, but like I said in my last post, I miss the WCW, pre-Russo days, or pre-1999.

I definitly agree with u on that MKGeek... WCW was one of those shows that got better with time, well until Russo that is... like u went from the kinda like WWF days of old school to the NWO entering and making a drastic change to the NWO fueds (man i miss the wolfpack) and the Goldberg hype... and cant forget about the infamous Hoga/Sting fueds... man i miss WCW...
Anyone remember the time that Nash messed up a Jack knife powerbomb on the Giant at Souled Out and broke his neck???

Even though my favorite wrestling promotion has always been WWF/WWE, I started watching NWA/WCW since the mid-80s. Ask anybody who's "in the know" about wrestling and they'll tell you that the reason it failed was because there wasn't a single authority figure in charge (as there was/is in WWF/WWE with Vince) and too much control (creative or otherwise) was handed to the wrestlers.

Anyways, my favorite moments from WCW (which were too few and far between) include:

-Scott Hall coming into the ring from the audience (he had fought his last match in WWF against Vader either the night or the week before), so everybody was like "WTF". He said: "You people...you know who I am. But you don't know why I'm here." This obviously led to Nash's appearance 2 weeks later (who had also had his last WWE match against Shawn Michaels recently), and thus, the origins of the NWO. IMO, the only other "Holy crap!" moment of the NWO was at Bash At The Beach when Hogan was revealed to be the third member, but it was always cool to tune in, week after week, to see who would "defect" from WCW or jump ship from up North.

-The New Blood storyline. Pitting the young talent against the "veterans" was a great idea, and the Nitro when this all began (including the debut of then-ECW champ Mike Awesome, the return of Shane Douglas, Kidman shooting on Hogan, etc...) was one of the best Nitro's ever.

-The Nitro when Hogan came out of retirement. Another awesome Nitro. Hogan had quit wrestling in order to enter politics, and he made a special appearance at this (it was either the first Nitro of the year or the last one of the year). A few weeks before, Nash had beaten (with the help of Scott Hall and a tazer) Goldberg for the belt at Starcade and this would be the rematch. However, Goldberg was arrested for sexually harrassing Miss Elizabeth (R.I.P.), so the cops had him detained downtown. Nash challenged Hogan for the title, and just when it seemed like a good brawl was gonna take blace, Hogan delivered the "finger poke from Hell." It was all a plan to screw Goldberg and put the belt back on Hogan plus have a smaller (yet stronger) NWO.

-Russo's Hogan shoot promo at Bash At The Beach. To the day, there's still a debate whether it was a shoot or a work, but I believe it was 100% legit. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, here it is:

Russo: There's only one way for me to do this and that's for me to tell it like it is. Three weeks ago, I left WCW...(HUGE RUSSO SUCKS CHANT)

Russo: (Serious sounding) Three weeks ago, I left WCW and quite frankly, I didn't know if I was going to come back. And the reason I didn't know if I was going to come back or not, is because from day one, that I've been in WCW, I've done nothing, nothing but deal with the bullshit of the politics behind that curtain. The fact of the matter is I have a wife and three kids and I really don't need this shit. But let me tell you the reason why I did come back, I came back for everyone of those guys in their lockeroom who week in and week out, bust their ass for WCW, I came back for the Booker T's, I came back for every single guy in MIA, I came back for the Animals, Jarret, the guys behind that curtain, who give a shit about this company, and let me tell you who doesn't give a shit about this company, that God damned politician, Hulk Hogan. What happend here tonight, all day long, I'm playing politics with Hulk Hogan, because Hulk Hogan wants to play tonight his creative control card, and to him, that meant that tonight in the middle of the ring, he knew it was bullshit, he'd beat Jeff Jarrett, well guess what, Hogan got his wish, and got his belt, and he went home, I promise everyone here on my God damn grave, you will never see that piece of shit again! I know you paid good money to come here tonight, and no one is going to be ripped off tonight. So Hulk Hogan now has the WCW belt..and Hulk, let's refer to that as the Hulk Hogan memorial belt, because from here on out, that belt don't mean shit! Because there will be a new WCW belt, and as far as I'm concerned, that belt still belongs to that one guy who busted his ass week in and week out in this ring, and you can love him or hate him, but he doesn't screw anyone backstage, and that's Jeff Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett is still the official WCW Champion, but he will defend that title, in this ring tonight, and he will defend that title agaisnt a son of a bitch back there who for 14 years has been busting his ass in WCW and can't get a God damn break because of Hulk Hogan. And I'm talking about Booker T! Booker T and Jeff Jarrett are the two reasons why I'm in this God damn ring to begin with, so tonight, those two guys will compete for the new WCW heavyweight title! And Hogan you big bald son of a bitch, kiss my ass!!

Now, here's what led to this for those who never knew about this incident. Hogan had a clause in his contract (the creative control card Russuo mentions) that allowed him to determine exactly WHAT happens with his character. HE decided if he would be heel or a face, HE decided who and where and how he would lose/win against. They had announced the World Title match between Hogan and Jarrett for several weeks before the PPV despite the fact that Hogan hadn't appeared on any of the WCW shows for several weeks (his PPV match would be his first appearance for quite some time). Prior to the PPV, Russo was in a limo with Hogan, trying to decide what to do with the match and what Hogan's storyline would be after Bash At The Beach. Russo basically broke down and told Hogan that he had no idea what to do and that he basically had no plans for him. Hogan tried to "reason" with him, but that led nowhere. Anyways, once the match was to begin, Jarrett simply got in the ring and lay down. Russo threw the belt at Hogan and Hogan pinned Jarrett with his foot. Hogan got on the mic and said something along the lines of "This is the reason this company is the way it is" and left.

Two things I should add:

a)After Russo finished, Hogan wanted to get in the ring and kick the crap out of Russo legit, but he was stopped by Arn Anderson and others.

2)After this PPV and until the day of the Final Nitro, Hogan never again appeared in WCW.

that was one of the more memorable Bash at the beach moments... actually i had about forgot about that... i remember on the last night of Nitro they had it live from a bar and the final match was Flair vs. Sting, they wanted it to be Flair vs. Hogan but Hogan said he would never how his face on WCW again...

The final WCW Nitro was pretty good. I'd like to get it on tape. It brought closer to WCW in a good way. Anyone watch the "Monday Night Wars" that the WWFE put out? Good dvd.

I have never liked WCW, but since it was bought out, it made me realize that competition is needed for the WWF. I have always been a loyal WWF fan, but know, it's like whatever. I started watching WWF in the late 80's, and this is the absolute worst it has been IMO, just like WCW

Somebody mentioned ECW. I saw some crazy shit. Sabu was wrestling someone(I can't remember who
) but that's not the point. This fool set his opponent onto a table and was gonna moonsault onto the guy. Well after Sabu set the guy on the table and climbed to the top rope the guy on the table fell off. The table fell over and Sabu hadn't seen it. As he flipped off the top rope he landed jaw first onto the leg of the table. His jaw was broken. They came from the back and took him to his room. Five minutes later he was back out with a tube of glue that he used to smear over his jaw to close it and some duct tape wrapped around his head. That was some of the baddest shit I have ever seen.

I remember that, but the way I recalled it, there was no five minute break. He simply finished the match with his jaw like that. Oh well, I could be mistaken, but either way, truly badass.

Sabu was always a personal fave (too bad WCW misused his talent in order to showcase Hogan and others and we only saw him in WWE twice, on the "ECW invades RAW in the Manhattan Center" and that match on RAW he had against 2 Cold Scorpio) of mine, but he was the type of wrestler who unfortunately put his body on the line way too much. I say unfortunately 'cause his body has been through hell and his carreer will probably end much before it should.

P.S. Unless I'm mistaken, Sabu is the reason why they call Benoit "The Crippler", since Chris broke his neck in a match (unintentionally, of course).

I hope you realize that was just a storyline. Shane and Stephanie never actually bought either company. ECW went bankrupt, because Heyman was bad with money. True that WCW/ECW were good, but they were never as good, or better than the WWFE.

MKSECRETS, you are correct, that is exactlly why Chris Benoit has the "Crippler" moniker.

I'm going to say this about WCW, they were good when they first got started, had their ups and downs, but my biggest beef with them, is that they mis-managed their talent. Basically towards the end, the "inmates" were running the asylum. Guys that didn't deserve to be Worlds Champ were given the belt, the NWO got too big, and guys like Austin,Taker, Trips and numerous others, weren't used to their fullest pottential. So yeah, I miss WCW, but in a way, it's good that the company is gone.
