The State of Midway
I have observed a lot of people bashing the MK team, Ed Boon and Midway for the state of the Mortal Kombat series... personally, I don't think MK is bad at all (that of course, is another issue)
I believe Boon and Co sincerely care about MK and the fans, and do their best to please most everybody (almost to a fault)... if someone is questioning the quality of an MK game, than Midway is most likely to blame either for ill-providing resources or rushing for a certain release date
It is true that Midway is about the $, but how is that different from any company, especially those in the entertainment business?
Midway knows that MK is one of its only remaining cash-cows, and they'll milk it until it's good and dead, and with the fanboys-- er, I mean fanbase, that should be a long while... They could push sequel after sequel out regardless of quality and still make money. This isn't greed, this is business savvy. Money talks after all.
But economical and political motives beside, let us look at the GAMES from Midway... in my personal opinion, things are looking up:
MK has gotten better in quality, content and technology...
the 'extreme' sports games in the vein of Slugfest (sammy sosa, bleh) and Blitz have evolved, even if just a little and...
Midway finally has a worthy, spiritual successor to the old NBA Jam in NBA Ballers (even tho 'street' ball games have been done) and it's not too shabby
a bevy of new games (if not new concepts) have been released, some good, others just so-so... Road-Kill, The Suffering and Psi-Ops... while the former two aren't anything revolutionary, Psi-Ops was pretty original in its implementation of telekenises, adding some interesting and fun gameplay moments.
more 'sort-of' original games are on the way, including AREA-51 (could be good)
also, i think i heard it on the grapevine that Midway might be publishing a future UT game... this could be great news (let's hope they don't f*ck the pooch)
well, those are my thoughts... feel free to state your opinions whether they be positive or negative
