If you watch Fox, you've probably seen commercials for this new reality show. Basically, 17 "ugly" women get plastic surgery to become beautiful, and then they compete in some kind of beauty pageant. (Note: I haven't seen the show, aside from commercials and a few seconds while my mom was watching it, so I don't know any of the finer details.)

Is it just me, or is this show the epitome of our shallow, superficial society? IMO this show is sending the wrong message to women, by reinforcing the idea that looks are all that matter. Maybe the show has a deeper meaning than this, and I'm missing it because I'm not watching the show, and therefore it may be unfair of me to judge it without seeing it, but I'd like to know what you guys think about the emphasis that society and the media put on "beauty."

I think it's Fox's egocentric attempt to influence the self esteem of young women into feeling that only through surgery can they find self worth. Such fellacious and perspicuous attempts are more than clear examples of the overwhelming benefit of young women to look past the refection and the critical gaze of the public eye to see the inner person inside.

Also I think that these reality show execs. need to get run over by a convoy of trucks... but hey I don't hate them! Just despise their needless use of self absorbing and idealistic dribble.

Now my name may be Skeletonofsociety, but the people who appear on reality shows are the Drones of society. I don't know who needs their parents to beat them more: the creaters of these shows or the dumbass contestants. Here's a thought on one we should run by the people at Fox, CBS, and NBC: Hunting for CEOs. We rally all the people who have had enough these retarded shows, arm them with sniper rifles with live rounds, and have them hunt and maim/kill network execs. The higher up on the ladder the bigger the prize. Now doesn't that some like some good ole' Primetime fun?

I only caught parts of the show, and most (if not all) of their changes were gonna be HUGE.

IMO, if these operations actually improve the self esteem of these women...good for them. It's not the method I'd recommend, but hey, it's their life.

The reason why all of these reality shows are coming out is because the studios don't have to pay millions to actors.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a suicide or two affter "The Swan" is over.

When people are brainwashed into thinking that looks are the only important thing in life, only to have it backfire on all but 1 of them, I'm sure many of them will feel even more worthless than they did before...

Don't knock Fear Factor. Fear Factor is the only intresting Reality show out there.

On another note... looks are about 80%. "Inner Beauty" only makes up about 20%. And those of you who say thats bullshit need to really think about it..

Sure personality counts but if someone is ugly and has the nicest personality ever, you don't wanna be with them.

Its the sad truth.

Maybe for some superficial people. Looks can't be everything in a true relationship. Looks don't last forever (unless you make your face plastic), and you need something to fall back on.

A person with strong spirit and a gentle heart is all I'd need...physically beautiful or not. I need someone to care for, not to just have sex with...

Shingo's right, TCK. And just 'cause you think it's "bullshit", doesn't mean it is.

Personally, if I wanna DATE a girl (as in, start a serious relationship with her), yes, there HAS to be something physical about her that I find attractive. But that factor only matters for about 5 minutes. After that, the ONLY thing that matters is what she's like inside.

And no, by "inside", I DON'T mean "insider her clothes" tongue

Im saying though... for conversation to start happening with a girl. A guy must, like you said, find something attractive about a girl. Now what if you don't find anything attractive about her?Actually what if there ISN'T anything attractive about her? Will you want to get to know her inner beauty? If a person isn't attractive, its gonna be very hard for anyone to even start a convo with them.

You know what I don't get, is that thoses girls were like "In middle school, I had no friends, all the kids teased me and made fun of me, and it has scarred me for life". I think they need to see a psychologist. Is plastic surgery really gonna take that all away? And then after the surgery they gotta pick which one goes to the pageant? That sucks, it's like "You still got all the surgery to make you beautiful, but your still not beautiful enough"
