Everyone's naming big time franchises... there are some obscure games that have amazing soundtracks.

One Must Fall 2097 has a tremendous theme and OST.

Gain Ground's another classic that never gained a lot of popularity but to this day it's one of my favorite games ever.

Don't forget Mystical Ninja starring Goemon.

I remember a game having a Pantera song on it.. I totally forgot which game though.

-Shadow of the Colossus- I listen to this regularly.

-Everquest- specifically the Planes of Power expansion and onward. Definitely some of the best background music I've ever heard.

-Final Fantasy X- As if the ending theme wasn't enough, some of the battle music is insanely innovative, especially the final battle. If I were to only pick one, this would be it.

-.Hack series(first four)- A lot of the music is just fun... Playfully atmospheric while sort of reinventing classic video game beep-music style.

-Final Fantasy X-2- A completely underrated game with a truly unique soundtrack for the genre.

-Gauntlet: Dark Legacy- Someone mentioned this and I immediately remembered loving so much music from this game, especially the spider boss....

-Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance- While overall it is kind of unremarkable, it gets special mention for the credits song.

I remember when I first heard the music for Sumner's Tower. It pulled me right into the game (especially the beginning). I have been doing numerous plays of this game throughout the years and it never gets old.

If only they would make another Gauntlet game like Dark Legacy. Seven Sorrows sucked.

I like the God of War soundtracks.
It always feels like something epic or a big battle is going to happen, but it also has that greek story music feel.
Soul Calibur has a great a great soundtrack too.
who ever thought orchestral music and a fighting game worked well together.

Brawl, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and the Pokemon series are the first to come to mind. Kingdom Hearts also had a catchy soundtrack. But nothing can top Brawl. The soundtrack was flawless

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

This...100 times this. Specifically Castlevania II. If it was ever in question, I cemented my nerd status by downloading Bloody Tears as a ringtone.

And please, let us not forget Contra.

I have always felt that no game music has ever been as epic as the Halo series. Shit brings a tear to my eye.

My all time favorites are:

Premier Manager 97 (There are 5 tracks, all amazing! Btw, by far the best football manager ever, phuck these modern ones that take 5 years to complete 1 season.)

World Cup 98 (Chumbawamba - Tubthumping FTW! There are other great tracks in this game, but this one was my favorite. Fits the atmosphere of one of the world's greatest sports events perfectly! Love the menus in this game too!)

FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 (Blur - Song 2 is just one of many awesome tracks in this game.)

Soul Calibur 3 (The whole album on 2 CDs is rich with great instrumental music, by my favorite is the opening theme Hour of Destiny.)
