Sequel-itis?
Over-paid actors/actresses?
Over-hype?
Game-to-movie incarnations?
Generic horror movies?
Over use of SFX?
General lack of good ideas?
Too many familiar faces?

C'mon, there are thousands of stuff Hollywood does to screw us over at the movies, from over-charged prices (that $6.00 small Coke should be called "theivery"), to misleading trailers (c'mon, "Van Helsing" LOOKED good...), etc., etc. What's your biggest beef? Fatality.

You wanna know what my biggest fucking complaint about the movies is?

CORNY LINES.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE CORNY LINES. Not in comedies of course but when you have a movie thats supposed to be SERIOUS. (IE: The Day after Tomorrow). DON'T throw in corny ass lines. Everyone in the audience found the lines in that movie histerical. While me and my friend sat silent and disgusted. How can you JOKE around when all of NEW YORK is Frozen?!

I swear If I was ever to make a serious movie.. I'd have it done right with not ONE CORNY line in it AT ALL.

What does a $6.00 Coke have to do with the movie industry? But anyway, I don't have a beef with the movie industry. They're not putting a gun to our head and making us go see their movies, that's a decision we make. And as for the trailers looking good from the TV, those scense ARE in the movies, so that's on you.

Well, the biggest problems are:

A) No original ideas. Almost everything is a sequel, a remake, or is based off a previous story from a book/comic/history. It makes me sick that there is a King Arthur movie on the way, along with an Alexander the Great film. Can't anybody have an idea of their own, damnit!?!?

B) Lots of movies are made to feed a diluted fan-base. Movies are made for the sole purpose of making money. So many bland movie plots are regurgitated on a regular basis. The producers know these movies suck. The actors know these movies suck. The directors don't care, probably. The writers most likely don't know how bad they are. But money not only talks, but it fucking greenlights bad films.

C) Most of the the content in modern movies are either liberal or left-wing masses of bullshit. Everything I hate about society is promoted in most of the movies today. Teen-pregnancy and abortion are rising rapidly, yet MTV is releasing emo-teen pop movies saying it's acceptable for high-schoolers to fuck? Once again, immoral bullshit. These movies reflect all the problems with society, but most writers/directors are too ignorant to know they're "problems", and producers could give two shits because all they care about is money.

All of Hollywood can go to hell.

You don't WANNA kill the suspsense in a serious movie like that by throwing in a bullshit line. Then everyone laughs but me and they forget the world is ending in the movie.

Damn Temp took most of the words out of my mouth, but I'll add to what he's already listed.

It seems to me that in the past few years being "original and inovated" has become really unpopular. It's very rare to see a studio take a risk on something that doesn't already have a huge following.

Another big problem is that everyone has forgotten what a good movie is. Between The Fast and the Furious, American Pie, and any Steven Segal or Vin Diesel movie that's been made recently, people just go along with what shoved down their throats. Why do you think so many people where so happy to hear that Tarantino did Kill Bill? It's because he is one of the few guys who can put out something that hasn't been done the same way as all of the other Hollywood trash.

Yet another problem is the movies today are like music in the 80s: everyone wants a piece of the action. Remember how bad Don Johnson's album was and how everyone thought he should stick to his day job? Well now the reverse is happening. Everyone is appearing in movies now: Rappers who can't act, Paris Hilton, crappy teen idols, hell even the morons behind American Idol have a movie under their belt. And how are they getting away with this? It's because not only do movies suck here in the States but so does every other form of media. Music, tv, movies, books, they've all taken a dive. It's a sad fact that a majority of the citizens in this country are people who A) Love Reality TV B) Go see any generic action movie and rave about it for weeks. C) Waste away their lives following the lives of overly privlaged celebrities/millionairs, and D) Are still enjoying the musical styles of William Hung!

Personally I just gave up on all hope of a possible change. If I want a good movie I'll go to my local Best Buy and spend a couple of hours browsing for something intriguing, or stay up until 6am just to catch the end of a movie that only air when no one else is asleep. If you want a list of some good movies that I've come across by sheer chance here's a quick list, and they all have the same thing in common; they weren't blockbuster hits:

Ginger Snaps
The Boondock Saints
Highway
Donnie Darko
Poolhal Junkies (It was only in theaters for a month)
Memento
Mean Machine (Only for fans of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch)
The First $20 Million is Always the Hardest
Comic Book Villians
Scotland PA

I will say this, quite a few actors from those movie will look familiar to a majority of people now, but back when they came out most of them were no names. I really could go on and on because this is basically the one subject I knoe best, but I'll stop here. Maybe next time I'll go into foreign flicks.

I'm still disappointed that, once something "original" comes around, we won't see anything original for the next five years. What? The Matrix was popular? Everyone and their dog hopped on that bandwagon. What? Lord of the Rings hit it big? Let's all make three hour epic films with swords, CG armies, and medithisthingisdisabled junk (Troy, King Arthur, etc.) What's that? Passion of the Christ hit it big? What other Bible stories can we exploit for profit? Huh? Spider-Man was a hit? Cue 75 comic movies.
Also, I, too, have a problem with how Hollywood "thinks" they know what we, the viewers, want. But... well, we never really get it. The million and one "teen" movies are proof of that. Nearly every movie with sexual content shows the "passion" and the "love", but never the consequences, such as teen-pregnancy, STDs, moral conflicts, etc. They wonder why teen sex is on the rise, while "teen" movies (all of them being 'R' rated, which, last time I checked, was NOT a teen-friendly rating) use every opportunity to parade around naked breasts and drop F-bombs. That, to me, is the ultimate sign of a bad movie, when old tricks like strong language and nudity for the sake of nudity are used as crutches to catch the audiences attention. A film that can make it through without strong language and unnecessary nudity is a rare thing. "The Last Samurai", "The Matrix", even "Terminator 2" and "Underworld", as unoriginal as the latter was, were bold in that they carried through with no unnecessary nudity-bits, pervasive strong language, or down-right excessive content. All are rated 'R', but they're "tame" compared to the likes of the F-ridden "Narc", "8 Mile", and the hundreds of other 'R' films, or the sex-filled "American Pie" films, "EuroTrip", and every other teen comedy.
When a director cares about making a "movie" instead of a buck, he can create something good, but there is, I believe, too few of them out there. For every heart-felt moment, we get a fart joke. For every genuine showing of love, we get random, meaningless sex scenes. For every grand speech of honor, pride, or any other praise-worthy human trait, we get foul-mouthed people cursing each other out, merely showing off their limited vocabular and lack of adjectives. Hollywood can do better.
I strongly respect the days of old, days of Hitchcock and such. He never relied on strong language, gratuitous nudity. He restrained his films, and because he did, the impact, I think, was that much greater. Even the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre surpasses the first because it was overly violent. The gore was implied, and what your imagination can conjure up is always more terrifying than what is put before you. I remember watching films and being shocked out of my seat when the hero would confront a villain and throw out "You miserable bastard!" Now... what's that? PG at least. Now, that won't suffice. We, the ignorant audience, must endure "you f***ing a**hole, f*ck you, you f***ing son of a b*tch," etc. Now, how "intellectual" is that? It's stupid. It's shallow, but it's what the studios throw us every single month. You know what? Grow a spine and restrain yourselves a bit.
And that goes universally in the media business. Curse words are synonymous with rap and shock rock. Sex with pop. Drinkin' and cheatin' with country. TV is nothing but a non-stop orgy now-a-days. Even video-games are crossing that delicate boundary, cursing and baring butts and breasts.
I respect mature games like, for example, "Silent Hill", easily the most disturbing, screw-up horror experience on the face of the planet. Yet, you know what, there has yet to be a f-bomb in the series. There has yet to be sex and nudity. Rather, it relies heavily on innuendo, imagination, and subtle context, something I think every film-maker should take to heart. IMO, we're heading into a dark age for movies.

Fatality.

In my most humble of opinions, I think the biggest problem I have with the movie industry is that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Uma Thurman have yet to make a movie together. When it comes right down to it, the industry doesn't cater to my needs and wants, and that bugs me quite a bit.

well i watch movies and like 'em I watched troy and I liked it for it had good performances, yeah it was campy but it wasn't for the sake of overfocusing on brad pitt! WTF am I saying? everyother scene was a closeup on His face! man my GF enjoyed it more than I did, I still like mindless comedy movies like Zoolander, or dodgeball, and I can't wait for anchorman becuase those movies subtely poke fun at societies foibles plus their hella funny...

I like seeing weel thought out action sequences, Spiderman 2 is a most EXCELLENT step in the right direction and I only saw the previews I'm gonna go n see the movie because I'm hoping they didn't give anything away...

I wanna see more movies like fight club...
