Although there seems to be a very small graphical update, in the beginning at least, the hardware is much better which gives companies the opportunity to do things that they weren't able to do in previous generations (obviously).

Recently, I was playing NHL 14 and a few things that I'd like to see among bug fixes that we have to deal with every year, is more customization. What I mean by that, and maybe other people who play sports games year after year, is that I get sick and tired of the same commentary and, more or less, the same commentators.

FIFA 13 did something that I hadn't seen done previously in a sports game, it used multiple commentary duos (think there might have only actually been 2, but nonetheless). With next-gen hardware, there is no reason that any and every sports game couldn't handle this. I understand it would cost more money, but companies like EA can afford it. It's not a make or break on a purchase for me, but it would keep the game feeling fresh.

There are other things that I would want changed/added to the NHL franchise, but I'm not gonna get into that here. Overall, my point is that I want a more engrossing experience that makes me feel like I'm there.

Mortal Kombat really doesn't have anything at the moment that I could think of. It's different when it comes to fighting games. The last Mortal Kombat I think really went into great detail in many different aspects in terms of damage taken to you and your opponent, living backgrounds, etc. I suppose the only thing I would say about another MK would be to just improve on these things that they already did well. I suppose they could add more costumes, customization of costumes and what not, but that's more or less the fault of NRS that that isn't included at this point. The previous generation of consoles could even handle it.

Anyway, regardless of what your preference is of video games, whether it's sports, shooters, racing, fighters, etc., what do you expect the next-gen systems to be capable of doing to enhance your gameplay experience?

From what I've seen with next gen games, I think we can expect better lighting and particle effects. Killer Instinct is a very good example as far as fighting games go. Considering how limited 2d fighters are, they really do help the game to pop. I also think we can expect to see 60fps standard as well in most games. As far as 3d open world games go, I expect to see bigger more persist and dynamic game worlds like Destiny and even Battlefield 4, which just have tons of little touches thrown in.

The biggest thing I grasp from Next-Gen games is making the worlds more immersive. Lighting, particle effects, memory, and textures will all be improved to increase the realism of the game worlds.

For instance, in IGN's coverage of the tech demo for The Order: 1886, they mentioned how you could shoot a tin can. The dent in the tin can would stay there as long as you were there. You could shoot many dents in the can and the game wouldn't forget about any individual dents in the can. Just a reminder of how far the memory has come.

Or in Knack how you can see every single particle Knack is made of. When he disassembles and reassembles you see every particle in the process. And when he gets larger there's even more particles you can see that get added to him.

As for MK, I'd like to see Dynamic Weather become a thing in MK. I want to see clouds move, rain splash as it hits the ground, and sunlight reflect off of certain surfaces.

Triple A development takes another year longer and becomes prohibitively expensive despite very little actual gain as games look largely like they already do on the PS3/360, except more particle effects and less framerate dropping.

Do you think we will ever see a return to 3d fighters? Probably not a popular option seeing MK and SF doing so well in 2D as well as people loving the tournament scene but maybe they can make it better than when we were on our Xbox, gamecubes, and ps2s.

I think we're going to ser a whole lot more people streaming their gameplay. Both the PS4 and XBO offer an easy way for gamers to stream their gameplay through twitch.tv. It may not be the best lookig feeds, but it's going to make it a whole lot more convenient for people who may be new to it and don't have dedicated capture cards set up.

The new consoles aren't taking that big of a leap. The new 4k ultra hd tvs are not on next gen consoles. So we r only getting 1080p at best.

There's still Tekken and Soulcalibur, so I don't think 3D fighters are gone just yet.

Besides, if they do all go away, someone will just make another one to stand out.

Well, I can see that more games are trying to have this open world concept, I'd like to see more of that. Meta Gear Solid is heading in that direction, I kinda would like to see more games head where you have this massively giant area to play on.

Hmm maybe create your own hero/villain then play missions with a team. That would mean an MMO massive multilayer online. DC already has one which is DCUO. An RPG might work. I want to play a role playing game in mk. Obviously it should have basics healer, tank, troll and dps. Game modes like team death match, capture the flag. One vs one, two vs two.

There's also Dead or Alive and Virtua Fighter. So 3D fighters are still in good supply.
