Why are most gamers so boringly unimaginative?

Whenever a huge crossover fighting game is in development, many gamers are so unimaginative that they'd leave iconic but "odd" characters (and odd characters in general) out of the game, because they couldn't figure out how to make them work gameplay-wise.

One example includes the Joker and Lex Luthor in MK vs DCU. But what I really want to mention is Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Good god, some of the "practical" ideas I've read. Someone suggested making Sweet Tooth a goddamn background prop, all because we've never seen him fight outside his vehicle. Bloody hell.

Or about one of Fat Princess's minions instead of the Fat Princess herself.

If these people had their way, I just shudder to think of how unexciting gaming would be. Fortunately things aren't done their way too often. Developers can be lazy, but rarely to the same extent as most gamers. The few times it does happen though, it can be tragic. Like Motaro in MKA.

It's not my only gripe with most gamers, but it's one I wanted to get off my chest. Edit: Oh, wrong forum. Heh. Then again, the Motaro thing does apply to this board.

I'm not sure what was so unimaginative with Motaro going with two legs, that was having him being able to work in the kind of 3d environment without issues. I don't think there may have been a way to actually find a proper solution to make him work with four.

Not like anything special came out of that game anyways...

I wouldn't say all gamers are unimaginative, you're just on a fan site where geeks love to share even the strangest, dullest idea possible and see if others would agree. I've seen some good ideas come from users here...

A bipedal Motaro is just not Motaro. Why not take away Baraka's blades while we're at it? Or the Shokan's lower arms? Seems like those (the Shokan's lower arms) are already causing some programming issues.

Motaro's gameplay could have been so innovative and memorable. But no, they had to be "practical". They just had to include him no matter what. I truly would have forgiven them for excluding Motaro if they couldn't make him work. A cameo like they did in MK9 could have been enough. Ironically, it would have been easier to properly incorporate Motaro in MK9's gameplay, yet they didn't.

Here's another MK-related case that applies to this topic: Freddy's second gloves. Also done for practicality. And it validates the "less is more" concept, even if I'd rather word it differently.

Is there no way to move this topic to the general discussion board? I'd rather not limit this to MK.

I will agree that they should have done something better with Motaro, I mean I didn't appreciate him going two-legged whatsoever. However, what's done is done and I'm sure from that game, the developers hopefully realized that if you're going to make a four-legged character, they stay four-legged.

Or at least find a way to program where it can be plausible to use in an actual fight.

You know, as I brought up in my second post, I wonder why Motaro wasn't included in MK9 as a fightable boss. The gameplay was 2D, like the old-school MK games, only with 3D backgrounds and characters. The leg thing wouldn't have been an issue.

One possibility that comes to mind, are the X-Ray attacks. His body is so drastically different from the other characters that most X-Rays would have looked way too ridiculous when done on him. Much more ridiculous than MK is known for, in fact.

Of course, one solution would have been to make Motaro immune to all, or most X-rays attacks. If he was a boss, he'd be entitled to such an advantage over most characters. Still, I could see the X-rays as the reason for Motaro's absence in the gameplay.
