Heck yes, I'm buying it. I've actually already pre-ordered New Super Mario bros. U. I have my doubts about the actual console itself, but in the long run it's the games that really matter. And Nintendo has some of the greatest games of all time.
I saw the specs for the console, but I don't know what they mean. I'm sure the Wii U is just a bit more powerful than the PS3 or Xbox 360, but I'm worried that it'll be behind the other next generation consoles when they come out. I'm sure Nintendo can do wonders with that technology (seriously, how much better is the hardware going to get anyway?) but will it still be able to support the third-party next-gen games?
I've heard rumors of a Legend of Zelda game in the works, which is apparently supposed to be the most massive Zelda game yet made. I'm looking forward to that one; I just started getting into the Legend of Zelda even though I've played Mario all my life. I've also heard a rumor (from the same people who predicted the PS3 Smash Bros ripoff) that there will be a Star Fox/Metroid crossover. This one, I hope to God isn't true; I'd MUCH rather just see a new Metroid game and a new StarFox game seperate. I wouldn't mind seeing two games in one disk like the Orange Box or Super Mario Bros+Duck Hunt though.
Of course, the one I'm really waiting for is the next big 3D Mario game. I know Shigeru Miyamoto is working on something, but I haven't heard whether or not it's a Mario game, but you know it's going to happen eventually.

Simply put, it means I don't care for a tablet controller.

I'm already getting a PSVita for Christmas so nah.

God no. I haven't bought any of my consoles brand new, and i'm not made of money.
Besides, i own a GameCube, a Wii, an original Xbox, an Xbox 360, a Gameboy advance and a SNES. (also a NES but i NEVER use it to avoid it wearing out). I really don't need or have room for anything else!

I tend to be an early adopter when it comes to new consoles, but this one doesn't interest me in the least.
The last time Nintendo hit the real sweet spot for gamers in terms of great 3rd party support, lots of great 1st party games and great gaming technology was the Super Nintendo (maaaaaybe the Gamecube, though I still maintain that system had the worst controller I've ever used).
As soon as I saw the tablet, I began to worry. So far, I've seen nothing that tells me that the tablet controller is anything more than a completely unnecessary gimmick that in reality adds little to the actual experience.
I have this bad feeling that Nintendo will try and force developers in to making the tablet and/or motion controls the center of attention and we see how well that worked with the Wii.
Nintendo is innovative and they're great for quality gaming experiences, but I'm not going to buy another Nintendo system and have it sit for months (if not years) at a time unused because the next great Nintendo-made game is the only thing to look forward to and it's still off in the distant future.

I'l wait before I make my decision...Its games that sell a console for me and so far nothing has caught my eye all that much.
Plus I love waiting for a console to be out for a while then buying it and you're spoilt for choice with games, I did that with PS3 and I felt like a kid at christmas buying loads of games that had been out for a while for cheap!

I'll direct you to the gamepad pro which seems to be exactly what you're looking for. I know that at launch many games already use this, so you can play game the traditional way too

This
To me it seems like a Wii with PS3 graphics and a tablet, that's it. This will be the first Nintendo console I probably won't own, at least for the time being. If anything I'll wait for MarioKart, Zelda, and Smash Bros and by then it should be quite cheaper.
