WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter. We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans. Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.

Kind of a surreal end to a surreal character. Freshly inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Fresh off a historic Wrestlemania XXX and RAW appearance. It seems he had the opportunity to bury the hatchet with a lot of guys.

This is blowing up pretty big on the wire, so we might as well pop this out of the WWE Superthread. Details still emerging about the whys, hows and wheres. I don't know about anybody else, but I needed some sources. It seemed like an old bad rumor/joke had got new legs. Just some of the outlets reporting:

Damn. I remember thinking right after his raw appearance about how red and sweaty he got during his promo. I never thought he would end up dead inside of three days after his induction, that most wrestling fans assumed would never happen.

My thoughts are with his family. Thanks for the memories.

**had the same thought about this being a bad joke**

- JR Remembers The Ultimate Warrior

The most memorable moment for me this past weekend in New Orleans was the interaction at the WWE Hall of Fame between Warrior and his two daughters who accompanied their Dad on stage just before he gave his induction speech. The love and bond between a father and his daughters was obvious and heart warming.

In an arena full of Warrior fans, many of who were reliving their youth with their hero, Warrior made it clear that his greatest accomplishment was not being the Ultimate Warrior but instead being the father of his two daughters.

In a career and life often marked by controversy, the beauty of the weekend was seeing Warrior come home to WWE accompanied by his family and that they were able to enjoy the celebration together.

A nice article from one of the most respectable commentators writing.

- Recap of DDP on Nancy Grace Tonight; DDP Praises WWE’s Wellness Policy Amidst Grace’s Attempts to Link Warrior’s Death to “Steroids & Drugs”

DDP mentioned Warrior's vigorous workout habits, and noted he was a very intense man, but added he is not a doctor, and cannot speak to the truth of any drug or steroid related causes of Warrior's death.

I don't really understand the defensive tone of this article. Warrior's history with steroids is well documented. The long term risks associated with steroid use is noted. It's certainly a logical conclusion to assume a combination of heart problems, excitement and travel might have gotten the better of the man. We don't know yet. Nobody should say for certain. But to take offense to the presumption of steroids playing a role in this untimely death is surprising.

Tragic news man, Warrior was my favorite back in the day. So sad for his daughter and wife. What's with all of these wrestlers dying so early? I mean steroids / drugs certainly comes into question but damn...it just goes to show that you can do irreparable damage to yourself in your 20's - 30's and it takes it's toll.

- Warrior cause of death a heart attack

TMZ reported today that the official cause of death for James B. Warrior (Hellwig) was atherosclerotic and arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Essentially he passed away on Tuesday due to a massive heart attack, which is what, from the nature of his collapsing while walking to his car and [clutching] his chest while walking to his car in front of a Scottsdale, AZ, hotel is what most had expected.

Not reported in TMZ is that they are proceeding with a death investigation. They are less concerned with how he died as compared to how he got there. The findings will be made public when the [investigation], which could take several months, is completed.

Not especially surprising. Gotta think steroids will have played a role.
