So Keiji Inafune, the guy behind MegaMan, Onimusha, Dead Rising and such has shown off his new game called "Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z". It's a side story with the main character, Yaiba trying to hunt down Ryu Hayabusa for cutting his arm off while fighting off zombies.

The game has a cel-shaded art style, seems really gory in that Ninja Gaiden 2 style, and could potentially be the Strider game I've always wanted but will never get.

This will be an end of a chapter: they want to kill Ryu Hayabusha. Even if Ninja Gaiden 3 didn't sell as vastly as its predecessors had sold, their decision is a little iffy. Compare Wrath of the Lich King. Are they sacrificing Ninja Gaiden's legacy for a new IP? It's intriguing to see Keiji join Tecmo.

The trailer says that Ryu did not only cut off Yaiba's arm but kill him too albeit death is often a result of an arm cut in reality. From the clip:

A fallen warrior
back from the dead
to fight the undead
and kill his killer
Wicked graphics and gameplay could condone Ryu's death, at least partially, in a world where the undead arise. Looking forward. Inaf said.

They aren't going to kill Ryu. There's going to be some kind of twist that once you play the game you'll see coming and Yaiba's objective will change and he'll end up going after somebody else. This game is really just a side story in the Ninja Gaiden/Dead Or Alive universe, and hopefully Yaiba will become a reoccuring character in that universe while also having his own series.

Completely unfamiliar with the Ninja Gaiden series but I've heard there good.

I love Cell Shaded art style too!
