We love games, but like everything we love, from puppies to chocolate milk, it has an expiration date.

Sometimes the CD gets scratched to the point it no longer works. Sometimes a cartridge battery finally gives out. Maybe the server for your favorite online MMO gets pulled. Regardless, some games we have just expire, despite our best efforts to keep them alive, whether that involved rubbing scratch remover on a disc (does that stuff really work?) or blowing into an NES cartridge (I don't know if that works, but everyone did it).

So, which games are in your gaming graveyard? What games do you love that gave up the ghost?

For me:

Silent Hill (PS1) - Dammit, I love this game. I would still be playing it from time to time, but my copy (that I bought used) just had too much damage. I managed to get a few playthroughs out of it, but it just won't work for me anymore.

Final Fantasy VIII - Disc one got damaged. Sadly, that makes the other three discs pretty much as useful as coasters (though coasters are kind of useful). I managed to find a replacement, but it my original copy is dead.

Legend of Zelda (NES) - The internal battery works... and then doesn't work. It's flickering on and off. Sometimes my save data is there when I boot up the old console, and sometimes I see nothing but a new menu screen.

Koudelka (PS1) - Apparently, my friend didn't know that throwing discs around like frisbees and losing them under the couch isn't the best way to keep a game working... Found a new copy, but the game was hard to track down.

Anyone else have some dead games?

RIP:

-MKvsDCU Tried to plug my wireless router into my Xbox while the disk was spinning. Ended up with a deep circular scratch. Well, MK2011 is out so I don't care anymore.

-Guitar heroes 1-3 for PS2: Found in sister's room with something spilled on it. Don't really care now.

- JAWS Unleashed: Mistook it for the Jaws the Revenge DVD and broke it in half. Sad, it was a fun game.

- Bubsy for SNES: It just disappeared, like it grew legs and walked away! It was such a fun game too!

R.I.P. to:

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis - Left the disk out once and it collected dust and scratches. I was irresponsible then, and now I have a new copy of it. Play it all the time.

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - YOUR DISK is about to die. Unplayable after countless hours on this damn game. Finally was littered in too many scratches and didn't work.

Pokemon Crystal Version - Accidentally dropped it in a hot tub along with my Gameboy SP. Never worked after that.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Again, I was irresponsible and left it out and open. Too many scratches and it broke.

I keep reading the title as "The You're Dead Game."

Pokemon: Gold - left out in the rain.

Mario Kart Wii and Mario Party 8 inexplicably won't play on my Wii.

Pokemon Fire Red. I can't count how many times I've beaten that game. Oblivion is another game I've played to death.

I once had a full color disk of Spyro the Dragon for PS1. Then I let a friend borrow it for about a week, and when I got it back it looked like someone had taken a screwdriver to it (apparently one of his other friends.) Anyways he replaced it but it was one of those crap B&W disks.sad

Bully.

For some reason it doesn't work on my Playstation 2 or my boyfriend's.

I have no idea what the heck happened to it... And the funny thing is, no there is no monkey involved, there's not a scratch on it either. It just doesn't work!

In the case of scratched disks, just go to a place like Play 'N' Trade where the fix the discs. I fixed a RockBand 3 disc recently that was lasered by my xbox for $7.

NHL 2001 for the PC will always be a favorite of mine, but the disk is now scratched after repeated use and doesn't work too well. Not totally dead, but certainly dying. And now that I have NHL 11 for PS3, I can let it live out its days peacefully.

If you people can't get your DVD/CD to play, buy the SkipDr. Go to youtube to see what it is. I purchased mine like two years ago, and it works. It is worth the $42. Sometimes it takes two tries, but it works. Note, it works with CD that have scratches, not cracks.

Sister: Here's the N64 I never even played it LOL

Me: Ok but where are all the games and controllers?

Oh man.

Pokemon Red for Gameboy. The battery came unglued inside, so every time I finished playing a new game, I'd turn it off, and it would be gone. My dad cracked it open for me, and glued the battery back down, so it worked for awhile. It just feels too unreliable now.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts got raped by my piece of crap XBOX360. Same with Prince of Persia and Assasin's Creed. I'm not upset about Banjo, 'cause I beat it, but PoP and AC pissed me off 'cause the frustration turned me off those games forever.

The Matrix Online.
Not because I can't afford to play it anymore, no. But, because they pulled the plug on the server a few years back now I think. I really miss this game. If you were a Matrix fan, this was a really fun game to play.

Silent Hill has not been good to me. I had an original copy of Silent Hill and kept it nice but lost it and when I found it was covered in scratches. Than my part 3 was loaned to someone NEVER a good idea apparently. Also once I bought a PS3 I downloaded Silent Hill than once I had to sell my PS3 I lost another copy of SH. Epic Face Palm... Luckily my SH2 is in fine working order.

My original copy of Resident Evil and RE3 on Playstation again loaned it to someone. Damn I’m glad I learned not to do that anymore.

Luckily they all can be had on Amazon for a fair price.

Moral of the story NEVER loan your stuff out to anyone...
