Zod protects people of krypton, that includes superman. I wish zodiac won. I know if superman didn't kill sod , zodiac will kill everyone except superman. I wish zodiac was good guy and superman was bad guy.
Do Not Post Spoilers in the Subject Bar
Posting spoilers to recently released films, regardless if it's in theatres or on DVD, is against forum conduct and in very poor taste. Please refrain from doing so in the future.

Because Superman killed Zod in the comics.

Post-Crisis continuity. Learn it, love it.

And if you don't, may Zod have mercy on your soul.

WHAT THE HELL! Dude, I haven't seen this movie yet, because I've been saving it to watch with my best friend for a "special occassion", and you just ruined the fucking thing. First, you could've posted this in the DCU Injustice forum, generally anything DC goes there, and you gave a massive spoiler for what appened in this movie is in the title. That's not cool, bro!

Yeah, I agree. This was a dick thing to do. If it makes you feel better though, the movie was really bad.

And yet, we're getting a sequel with Batfleck.

Seriously... Not all of us keep up with the comics...
Anyway, I've not seen the film, but this reeks of making Superman darker than he should be. Even Batman makes a point of not killing his enemies, or at least actively avoiding it. Superman is the one hero who's never supposed to go to that point.

The actual scene is that the Phantom Zone has already been closed, so Zod can't be sent back, and Supes has Zod in a headlock and Zod forces him to snap his neck by trying to shoot civilians with heat vision and making it the only way to stop him.

The director has explained that the reason he had Superman do it was to explain WHY he develops his no-killing rule in the sequels. Superman doesn't have any psychological hangups about death built into his origin like how Batman watched his parents be shot as a kid so now he refuses to use guns and can't handle the idea of killing someone...so now he has a reason to be so strongly adverse to stopping villains by killing them, because he was forced to take the life of the only other survivor of his homeworld left, and it was traumatic for him.

Also, as I've already pointed out, Superman also made a singular exception to his no-killing-rule for the Phantom Zone criminals in the comics in the late 80s.

I'm reeeeally not the kind of guy who likes grimdark, especially as relates to Superman, but I actually really liked the scene and I think the movie does a very good job of portraying Post-Crisis Supes. See...I've always hated the Donner movies because they're, y'know, from the 70's. The writing is corny and the characters in them don't much recognize the ones I grew up reading in the comics of the 80's and 90's, I've been waiting all my life for a movie about the MODERN version of Superman. I'm particularly excited to see the sequel give us the REAL Lex Luthor, who owns a company called Lexcorp and whose reason for hating Superman is because he doesn't trust aliens and thinks having an invincible savior around diminishes the potential for human achievement...I just hope they don't fuck up introducing Batman and other League members somehow.

That said, the movie does have problems. The pacing's too slow and boring for most of the flick, Pa Kent's characterization is kinda fucked up, and the ending skips completely over any consequences or cleanup after there's been a big, destructive battle in the middle of the city and goes straight to the happy ending, which is kind of a problem because one of the destroyed buildings was the Daily Planet, but suddenly everyone's back to work in a new Planet building that must have taken like a year to rebuild.

But Superman killing Zod is not one of those problems.

@jerrod that's a really good point. Batman is said to be darker but he don't kill, not even in the games, (he tried to save joker even after joker drugged batman with infectious blood). Superman isn't called dark but he killed.

Sorry for spoilers,

I thought man of steel was one of best films this year. When u look at all big budget films this year, mos delivered and delivered in spades. Pacific rim another big budget movie, I think was boring and lame. I even made the mistake of watching it in cinemas.

Next film I'm looking forward to is hunger games - catching fire. Will watch it in cinemas. Cant wait.

Man of Steel was very disappointing. I think the concept of "let's make this a dark movie" is lost on some directors. And I love all the other movies Snyder has done, so that's saying something.

The main issue I had with the film, was that they rushed the parts that shouldn't have been rushed, and spent way too much time on the parts that could have easily been shown in half that time.

"Who am I?"
5 minutes later: "I am Superman!"
Another 5 minutes later: "Oh no, Lois found out I am Superman."

... for real?

And that fight sequence (or what I like to call 'the other half of the movie'), while enjoyable to watch, outlasted its impact. We all know the saying "Less is more", well... that's how I feel about that fight. The first couple of explosions (or whatever) make you go "Sweet!", but after the umpteenth one, that feeling quickly changes to "Meh..." .

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually prefer Superman Returns over MoS.

He could've covered his eyes or flown out of the station. He had options. It too me just seemed like a way for Zod to not show up in future stuff.

Covering his eyes would've meant letting go of the headlock, and flying out of there wouldn't do much good because every time he tried to steer the fight somewhere else while they were flying, Zod overpowered him and crashed him into something.
Also, you have to look at Zod's motivation in the scene. He was essentially committing "suicide by cop", he WANTED to force Superman to kill him and no matter what Superman had done to stop the heat vision, the fight would have kept going and Zod would have kept finding another way and another and another to endanger civilians until Clark killed him, because he's as strong as Clark is and way too strong to be held by any prison, so it's not like that was a fight that could be won by knocking the bad guy out and arresting him.

For the record, in the comics, Superman used Kryptonite (while wearing a lead suit) to calmly execute all THREE Phantom Zone Criminals, simply because they TOLD him they'd never stop. The guilt afterward not only drove him to never kill again, but was one of the mental weaknesses Max Lord preyed on to take over Supes' mind and force him to fight Wonder Woman in the leadup to Infinite Crisis a couple years ago.

Forcing a neck snap in the middle of battle is probably a better characterized way to get the same end result, a Superman who develops a REASON to be adverse to causing deaths in his rookie years.

The president was wearing iron mans (iron patriot suit). Also the film took digs at Pakistan and Syria. How American of them . @chrome supes is a dick like that. Why? Because his dick is made out of steel.

Huh, don't know why, but that does make me feel better.

Guess I'll just go watch somethin' else- like Thor: The Dark Worl or maybe wait for MoS2, depending on reviews.

Man of Steel was the best superhero movie in ages. It was done very well . I went back and forth on which I liked more, Batman (bale) or the man of steel.

Finally settled on Man of Steel for its story, acting, scenery and great villain.
While Marvel was putting out complete trash like wolverine , and Ironman 3, out comes Man of Steel and does an amazing job.

Thor 2, was entertaining and more fun than wolverine or Ironman 3, but its not up to par with a big hitter like MoS.

I'm hoping that the new X-men movie will be great , but with marvels track record, im sure it will be OK at best.

You do realize Marvel does not own the movie rights to the X-Men, right? That's 20th Century Fox.
