NBCs Constantine
NBC finds its John Constantine
I'm cautiously excited about this - I'm a huge Constantine fan (Hellblazer more-so than the New 52, but I still read loyally). I love the character, he's probably my favorite anti-hero in all of comics. It's all I can do to not screech with joy that they actually cast a non-American in the role (may not be a London native, but I'm sure he can do the accent better than any U.S. actor could). I hope this will erase that wretched diarrhea pile starring Keanu Reeves and show the real John Constantine to a public that is still mainly unfamiliar with the character.
Despite my excitement, I am worried that NBC is going to strip it of its comic charm leaving it as nothing more than a cheap Supernatural rip-off. John Constantine is a manipulative bastard who will ruin, destroy, or even sacrifice others to achieve his own goals. He's not Olie Queen or Batman; Constantine's moral compass points in whatever direction he deems most beneficial to him. Hopefully NBC has the backbone to let the character be at least a little similar to his comic counterpart, let alone the most horrible thing you could possibly be on network television.....

Personally, I think the Keanu Constanine movie's actually a pretty good film if you ignore the fact that it's almost nothing like the comic and treat it as a generic supernatural action-thriller.
But I am happy for Hellblazer fans that they're getting a more legit adaptation.

A lot of people would recommend the "Dangerous Habits" story arc, because it's widely considered one of, if not the best (it's one of the story arcs that got butchered by the Keanu Reeves garbage). However, I think it sort of falls flat if you're not too familiar with the character. I'd go back to the start of Hellblazer. Issues 1-9 are compiled into "Original Sins". It's a bit hectic, but it really lets you slowly get a feel for who this character is despite the quick nature of the stories.
As for John's bisexuality, I'm not really sure if that's canon anymore. The comments John made about his sexual endeavors all occurred in the vertigo-verse and that's all been shat on by the New 52. John -at least at this point in time - seems extremely preoccupied with winning back Zatanna.

- The First ‘Constantine’ Trailer Sends You To Hellblazer
YouTube trailer. Haven't got around to watching, so this is as much for my benefit as anyone else's.
Anybody watched? Thoughts?

I saw it, as I seem to be the only one here who cares. I'm excited, but that's not to saw the trailer was great. It was too much too quickly; I think they're really focusing on drawing in their Grimm fans and siphoning off fans from Supernatural, which seems a bit needy. However, they gave it a rather powerful spot in the lineup, which seems nice. Yes, traditionally Friday isn't the best TV show night, however Grimm seems on solid footing and Constantine will be the lead-in for the 11PM news, on into the Tonight Show.
