Anybody else play the Marvel Heroscape strategy board game?

You can buy the Marvel base set here:
http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Heroscape-Marvel-Game-Set/dp/B000M5JOYG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid;=1359085842&sr;=8-1&keywords;=marvel+heroscape

Such an amazing game, that's only limited by your budget. I include it here, because you can expand and include any DC character as well. My friends and I have expanded way beyond the base game, and bought a ton of heroclix figures, and printed out custom made character cards(made by heroscapers.com C3G community, they playtest them and make them fit right in) of just about every hero you could want. Also purchased a bunch of extra terrain, and made a nice stat sheet for all the characters we have. It's insanely fun, easily the best Superhero themed board game, and offers a ridiculous amount of fun. Though, it's definitely not cheap to expand upon, I've put in around $250-$300 into it, as well as $150 or so from friends. Totally worth it if you love these kind of games, and are a superhero fantatic.

Here's where you can get custom cards of tons of superheroes:

Here's a few examples of my cards for plenty of characters you all recognize...from Abomination, all the way to Zatanna. We have over 100 characters, and each offers unique specials and stats etc. that make the game feel fresh and new all the time, and represents each character well:

Some of the figures(need a bigger container, so 20+ aren't in it):

Here's the map setup I have in my basement:

Of course all the pictures are extremely big, but i don't feel like going through and resizing them all manually. Blame the odd thin post limit lol. Hopefully you get an idea of what it's about though.

So to anybody who is interested, I can't recommend you give this a try enough! It's so freaking fun. As I said before, each superhero is represented well here. Martian Manhunter can move around teammates, Gorilla Grodd can take control of other characters, Batman can dodge attacks and immediately wound an opponent, characters can fly, Hulk gets more attack dice as he gets more wounds on him, Aquaman and Swamp Thing benefit from being in water and swamps, Poison Ivy benefits from grass areas and trees, and characters such as Hawkeye and Green Arrow have long ranged attacks. Each character is balanced well and is alotted a certain point value, and you only have so many points to spend per team. So the Hulk and Superman are high 300-400, whereas Iron Man and Batman are in the low 200's, while Hawkeye, Green Arrow, and Beast are mid to high 100 point value. So if you are given 1600 points to draft your heroes, everyone will be balanced.

Seriously guys, give it a shot. It can get pricey the more you wish to expand, but holy crap is it fun. Like chess on steroids.

It sure does look like a lot of fun! I'd love to give it a try! Unfortunately, most of my friends aren't into the comic scene.

While I can see why that limits the potential for it to connect with friends, that's kind of the beauty of the game. You don't need to know who each character is, as each character's specials are defined on the card, and they all have base stats such as "Life, Movement, Range, Attack, and Defense" So not being into comic books or superheroes, may not be AS enjoyable, but it's still a strategy game that anyone can enjoy. Simple to pick up and learn, but the strategy and character specific abilities are what make the game so challenging and compeititive. Anybody who enjoys chess, Risk, Axis and Allies, Catan, or any sort of strategy game where you have to think ahead and use the different characters to their strengths etc. They'll definitely have a good time.

The best part, maybe your friends will learn more about some of the characters just based on their abilities/specials in the game, and then start to have more desire to learn more about them or get into the whole thing.

But yeah, if anyone has the money for it, i definitely don't think you'd be disappointed at all by investing in it. It leads to some really awesome games. Just figured i'd mention it on here because I haven't seen anyone else talk about it, and to me, i've been playing it for close to a year, and I can't get enough. You can add as many characters as you want, and have some awesome encounters. My friends and I all have our main picks each time. I usually stick with Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Hulk, Nova, and just recently picked up Superman, and loved how he plays. Last game tried out Harley and Ivy and they work well in unison, Ivy having the ability to take control of an enemy figure through pharamone seduction, but you have to woll 17 or higher on a 20 sided die. So it's not easy, but totally paid off when I took over an opponent's Darkseid. Just got Martian Manunter, Aquaman, Swamp Thing, Gorilla Grodd, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Hawkgirl, Two-Face, Riddler, Doctor Fate, Huntress, Captain Marvel, Black Adam, Swamp Thing, and Zatanna to add to the selectable characters. We've got over 100 currently, with around 65 being Marvel, and 40 being DC. So just about anybody you could name, you could get.

To show some of the differences in how the character's cards would play:

Martian Manhunter's card:

Two-Face's card:

Captain America's card:

Black Adam's card:

As you can see, they all offer unique abilities and specials, that really fit their persona. So it's just neat having 4 people playing at the same time, each with around 7-9 characters on their team, and all the chaos that ensues.
