What if the Green Lantern in the sequel isnt Hal?

As long as it's Kyle Rayner I'll be happy. Hal and Kyle are my two favs. Kyle hasn't been in any fighting game form yet. I know John Stewart fans would love to have him as well. Simon Baz would be a unique addition too.

Keep Hal, he has an established move-set. No reason to drop him. Just add another lantern. No reason there can't be two. Their styles contrast nicely from each other and could make for very diverse and interesting movesets.
Laira, Soranik Natu, Kilowog, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, Sodam Yat.... they could all make excellent characters.

I agree with this. You could do the same with Sinestro as well. You could have Arkillo be an alternate skin.

As long as it's Rayner or Gardner.

Eh, skins would be cool for second-bests, but the Lanterns are swell thought out that I don't think it would do them justice. Rayner's constructs are extremely different from Hal's, Kilowog's are different from Gardners etc..

Liara is a Red Lantern. Not Green.

Not really. Arkillo would have a much larger hitbox. Unless he's gone on the Atkins diet, he's way bulkier than Sinestro.

Why couldn't this ending have happened?

Technically Laira is dead or no longer exists in the DCNU.

Nope. Laira spent the vast majority of her time as a Green Lantern. She became a Red Lantern in 2007 but debuted in 1993. She wasn't a prominent character, but still, canonically and literally, she has been a GL far longer than a RL. Her red lantern form could also easily be made an alternate costume, in the same vein that Hal has a Yellow Lantern skin.
Regardless, my point remains. If they want to do different Green Lanterns, there's no reason to replace Hal. The lanterns are all diverse and have contrasting styles that would lend themselves to creating great and unique move-sets.
