When first announced, I was pretty mad because I was enjoying the current thread in Detective Comics. And they explicitly stated in a column that Dick Grayson would be the new Batman for a long time to come, which was an outright lie.

And then they went and renumbered Action and Detective, which irked me even more. But I have since gotten over it and am actually looking forward to a more "simplified" and streamlined Universe. Mythology can get hard to keep up with after a while (thank god for wikipedia) and I think the new 52 will be a golden opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new continuity. Bottom line: much as I love the DCU, the prospect of getting a brand new squeeky clean continuity is kinda exciting.

I'm worried about how well it will sell though. They are trying to reach a wider, non comic reading audience (which I honestly don't think will happen). No doubt the first issues will sell through the roof, but I'm afraid everyone will lose interest around issue 5. If so it would probably mean the end of DC (at least the current incarnation) as we know it. There's also a lot of controversy surrending some character reboots, such as Wonder Woman.

So I guess we'll just see. Your thoughts?

Although I'm not a keen comic magazine reader I'm quite excited about this new rehashed universe. However, it's kind of annoying that right after Smallville ended its tenth, final season, a reboot happens just when people finally thought they knew everything essential about Clark Kent.

Disappointing, counter-productive.

I really, REALLY don't like Tim Drake's new suit, or Superman's.

Interesting to bring that up. I was wondering if DC's target (non regular comic readers) was being reached with these. I guess its true, at least in your case.

On that note, whats up with Superman's legs? They appear to be metallic or cybernetic or something, I'm not sure. I haven't read a lot of info on that.

From what I understand is that they are trying to make the comics feel like the movies.

I mean in one corner you have The Dark Knight and then you have Batman RIP which has Batman addicted to heroin and punching Satan in the face.

So, I can understand why they want to get some more parity.

And you have Wonder Woman, who a lot of people would be able to name as one of the first superheroines to pop into your head when asked and is one of the DC Trinity, but she hasn't exactly got a Joker or a Lex Luthor. So hopefully that will change.

I mean they are planning a Justice League movie and building up to that with new Supes, current GL, Probably a new Batman (Not Begins/Dark Knight/Rises universe), Flash and WW.

But from a completely biased POV FUCK YOU DC FOR APPARENTLY RETCONNING POWER GIRL OUTTA EXISTENCE.

Seriously was enjoying it and her. Added so much to her as a character beyond nice tits.

I can understand why they cancelled the book. But the whole damn character? sad

I am cry.

I can understand some streamlining and fresh build up on existing characters. But still.

Edit: Also I thought they would actually cut down on the amount of comics they made but they still have so many titles. For an average guy who might be picking these up, they see 52 new number 1s on a shelf and they are just going to walk away.

If that's their target, I don't know why Superman seems to have the old suit in a reboot film in 2012, Man of Steel. While you can't see all the costume details in the picture, you can notice that Superman doesn't have that collar there even though he has it in the reboot look of DC comics.

Are you saying DC is going to trying to do a shared movie universe and build up to a Justice League movie like what Marvel has been doing with their properties? Is there any evidence for that? I reading conflicling reports:

http://themovieblog.com/2011/01/no-dc-shared-movie-universe-for-now

http://simplysupermanbatman.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/will-warner-brothers-finally-give-dc-comics-fans-some-justice-in-2013/

Honestly I hope they don't follow in Marvel's footsteps here. No a huge fan of the shared movie universe. I mean why take all these characters that have had their own films and cram them into one movie? My honest opinion is that Avengers will seem too busy because of this, some characters will probably feel underrepresented etc. etc.

There are constant references to the Gotham City in Superman's stories, for example the backgrounds of some villains, but I think DC intends to let Superman and Batman live their own lives while they both exist in the same world. Maybe they already have their own enemies and allies to work with so co-operation would feel unlikely, unless some accident happened.
On top of that, Clark Kent has fought against LuthorCorp a lot longer than 'Batman' has existed so they probably confront their greatest villains in different years*, in case DC would consider making a Superman/Batman vs. Lex/Joker movie.
*The years are of course constantly retconned to this day.

Flashpoint #5: felt like a cheap way to resolve everything. lame. boring, uninteresting. A few twists that were neat but they didn't capitalize on them like they should have. bottom line, Geoff Johns is good at weaving stories but bad at getting himself out of his own tight arcs.

JL#1: Okay. Just okay. Dialogue between GL and Batman is forced and unnatural throughout the entire issue. However it is neat to see these characters interact for the "first time". Hopefully in following issues Johns will built more towards an actual story rather than focus so much on acquainting the heroes that will comprise the Justice League.

So far this relaunch is about a 3/5 for me.
