It is not allowed!

It is not taken up in the Fan Art FAQ in so many words (yet), since I assumed it goes without saying that one should not be submitting work that is not his or her own.
Labeling something that is the result of time and effort of somebody else as your own is a lack of respect and sense of ethics, in my opinion.
Apart from that, it is against our Fan Art policy.

However, some people have been submitting work of fellow fans, and even original concept art from the MK development teams.
Hell, I've even seen people submit my work.

I, as the Fan Art manager of MK5.ORG am personally responsible for what submissions get through and which get not.
I have been an active member of the online MK community for many years, and have been working for and even running MK related websites and forums.
Since I hold this personal love for art, it's the fan art and their artists that always caught my eye on those sites and forums.
This being said, I think it's save to say I know quite a lot of Fan Art artists and Fakes producers, and am fairly trained in recognizing their work. Especially of those that have been around for a while.
This helps me a bunch in reviewing the pending Fan Art submission on MK5.ORG. However, my review abilities are not waterproof, and I'm sorry about that. I try to do the best I can, but sometimes I'm wrong and bad submission slips though.
Luckaly there's hawks out here on the forum that can sometimes spot things better than myself. Some of them professionally inform me about the matter, while others simply 'flame' the submitting user. Either way, I thank them for pointing out my mistakes in one way or another.

Anyway, prevention is better than the cure, so I'll make an attempt here to reduce the number of illegit submissions.
I do that by stating once more what MK5.ORG's policy actually is on this matter:

Submitting the work of others results in an immediate ban from MK5.ORG and all its forum, for undecided time! You don't get a warning, THIS is your warning!

Concluding:
  • Submitted the work of other results in an immidiate ban.

  • There will be a new Fan Art FAQ/Policy that will state these and other rules.

  • Please keep informing me about illegit submissions.

Thank you for your time, and happy submitting (of your own work that is).

Good call Acj! wink
I've being a victim here and I glad that you took care and will be more careful on that matter.
FatSatan was also a victim from the same person "ScottyC14" that did that to me.
I think that every artist here should sign/watermark their work, just for precaution!

Acj for moderator!.... oh wait his already moderator grin and yes I also seen a lot of people steal and edit people's work and they claim it that they did the work and they get all the kredit. This sort of INCIDENT also happened in Davesmk but thats over. I also seen people who take real screen shots of Mk out of sites and they edit it w/ out taken the site's name off the pic. *sigh* people this days.

I like your sig MaxDam smile even though its a red x tongue just like my avatar... which annoys me!!!!

Not only is submitting other people's works lame, it's illegal.
If they have their name/initials on their original work, you could technically be sued by the original Artists if they chose to do so.

So, for those of you whom bans don't scare off, think of the legal standpoint.

And I think it's really pathetic to steal other peoples work. Luckily noone has ever stolen my work (at least not that I know of). But that's probably because my work suck.

and it also causes people to start flame wars with other message boards, that shouldnt have started in the first place.

Why would one want to steal the work of another. It only makes the individual look very stupid once he/she has been found out. Even moreso when the theif tries to make up excuses.

Why people do this is beyond me, but it seriously has to stop.

I'd like to add to this, given the events of the previous night here.

Coloring an artists drawing could be considered a favor, but its a privledge as well. So here, it is not only ethical to get the original artist's permission to color their work, it is policy as well. If you see something on this forum you'd like to color, obtain the permission of the artist before you submit it. Also, this goes for just simply posting a link to the colorized drawing outside of this site. Either ask the artist in the original submission thread, or ask him/her via our PM system, but you must have permission.

Now, I realize there are cases when things are a bit different. But here, the artists submitting are not huge corparations like Midway or any other company such as that. They are fan artists, and if they do not wish for you to colorize their drawings without their consent, you can't, period. This stands for any and all cases here, get the artists permission first, or your thread will be closed. If you continue to ignore these rules, then further action shall be taken.

sorry for not asking permission, i didnt know i had to.. in future i'll ask the permission of the artist, normally on other forums (non mk) its allowed to post other peoples work as long as they give due credit but then all forums rules are different so in future i will def ask.

yup it is absolutely crazy, hell i have seen some people on this bored get banned because of stolen work, thats why its always best to look in the archieves to check out the ideas and make something completely different, so then this way, you wont get acused from stealinganything if no one ever created something like it, and also dont take things from websites either, cuz then you get in trouble aswell, this is what i have seen, and know

Hi, it's cool that you have a respect for original works. I have that same ethic.
Umm, yeah, aside from that; I sent a pic about 3 weeks ago... I think. But i was told i should ask you what's up with it. Sooo, what's up with it? Does it usually take forever, or did i screw up somewhere?
Please, help me out

apostasy,

If you have a question concerning a pending fan art submission, it's best to contact me via PM or email, since I'm the one that decides which submissions make it to the site and which do not.

If a submission has been pending for three weeks and you didn't get an error when you uploaded it, it most likely got rejected.
It usually takes a few days tops for me to get to reviewing a fan art submission.

Reasons for a rejection can be a lack of originality, a lack of quality (I'm quite easy on that one, I think), or exceeding the maximum allowed file size, which is 350KB (a lot of people go wrong there).

If you don't think any of these reasons can apply to your submission, or you want to make sure, and your submission has been pending for more than a week... feel free to contact me, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Sincerly,

ACJ

P.S. The rules and restrictions concerning submissions to the fan art system are being re-documented, and will soon replace the current FAQ. I hope this will clearify certain issues.

There's no need to use the abbr tag in the forum, ACJ.

This regulation will be explained thoroughly via a FAQ once the Fan Submission section of this site returns.
