So ........ Tekken fans have been bitching quite a bit about MKX's Kotal Kahn being a rip-off of Ancient Ogre.
Well this is what I have to say to that...
EDIT: In case some people have different brightness settings than what's on my computer/monitor... here it is without KK's sun god lighting effect.

Cool :) The only thing I see is that Ogre's head looks a little big, but other than that, very nice :)

Yes, Ogre's head looks a little big when compared to Kotal Kahn but Ogre's is a bigger character than Kotal Kahn. Ogre's head is relatively proportionate with his own sprite.
Thanks for the replies and compliments. I considered doing Cassie Cage and Ferra/Torr next, but I personally do not like those two characters. I might pull an old/unfinished MK2011 fake out of my butt next.
HOOOOOOOOLY CRAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!
This is so AWESOME! My screen brightness is apparently darker than urs, so ur fake w/out the lighting effect looks the best to me.
im absolutely baffled at the quality of BOTH of these sprites! Ogre looks awesome and of course, ur kotal kahn sprite takes the prize! Its unbelievably accurate to how the character looks and all we’ve seen are E3 videos!
As always u manage to capture so much detail in ur sprite edits, no blurry or smudginess in them, or hand-drawn like it came from some other source. theyre so crisp like it came straight form the game!
I love how u tried to create an aztec step pyrmiad stage. I’d say everything looks great except the pyramid itself (well the stairs look just fine). U did a good job using specific MK1 stage props to that fit well with the theme.
This is amazing!

Sweet fake. I love the subtle light aura shining down from the heavens on the tribal god. Any chance you can take a stab at writing up a bio for Kotal Kahn to go along with this piece? MKX fakes are hot!
It's been awhile since I've critiqued anything, so let's see how rusty I've become. Without further delay, I'll offer my humble opinion of your latest entry in the fake picture industry.
Although I am impressed with the quality of this image given how quickly you managed to dole this one out, I have to point out a few major flaws and bring this thing back down to Earth.
In all honesty, neither image is very pleasing to the eye, and the background takes the brunt of the blame. While the sprites were executed well enough, my only complaint being the inexplicable absence of Kotal Kahn's feet, the background appears rushed. While it may have been a good concept, the seemingly hurried execution of the background has really hurt the quality of the image as a whole.
The sun filter causes a pretty high amount of detail of each sprite to be lost. Even without the filter, there is not enough of a difference in pigment between Kotal Kahn's greenish skin and the gray stones of the pyramid.
Speaking of which, aside from the staircase, the pyramid itself lacks any sense of realistic perspective. Shading each stone, getting darker as you progressed further upwards, would have allowed for you to have easily avoided this.
All in all, I'll have to give this image a 6/10. Aside from a few unmentioned nitpicks, the sprites are very impressive. In my opinion, it's the background that takes away from the overall quality of this image.
Actually, there are a few screenshots floating around that depict Kotal Kahn in action. There's also a pretty massive image of his loading screen. Even so, that doesn't diminish the awesomeness contained within these sprite edits.

Hope you're back Veno and not just teasing us
.
Am not feeling Kotal Kahn myself either. It reminds me when Kobra (MK:D) was a cheap knockoff look-alike of Ken from Street Fighter. They should've gave this a second chance but that's a different topic.
Good job nonetheless. I wonder if he's what is being portrayed in MKII:

Lots of cool detail on the sprites. Kotal Kahn is definitely not an easy character to translate to 2D sprite form, so good work. I have to agree with Veno that the background is kind of rushed and lacking, and the details in the rock surface make it difficult to make out some of the detail in Kotal's head/headpiece.
