nice job, even thought its a copy drawing (it cant be a trace, as it would be too small) it is done very nicely, though copy drawing is a art in itself, as it shows passion in wanting to be a artist, and this is done, VERY NICELY, the entire body of motaro matches the original picture, and the shading was done, superbly, five out of five dragons, hope to see more art from ya

First I must say... Don't listen to Noob... Everyone who is willing to make something is an artist, whether you're a 'copy artist' or a 'creative artist.' Don't let Noob make you feel like your skills are any less simply because this is not original... I personally know a few artists who do nothing but paint replicas of other artist's work and... Guess what they happen to be considered GREAT artists in the artist community. Even most 'creative' artists aren't really all that creative... Most find a form of art they really like and then go out and adapt real life objects or scenerys to their art form, changing the neccassary aspects so that it will fit properly on the canvas (or tracing paper...) I suppose that by making slight alterations you've done the same as them only not as drastically...

Really all this means is that it's not anybody elses opinion as to whether your an artist or not, it's soley and completely up to you if you want to consider yourself one or not. It is; however, up to the crowed if they want to consider your work as good or not. To that all I can say is that you want to laugh it off and remember that a true artist does what he does because he loves what he is making. He does this to be able express himself or the ideas he likes and believs in. You can only please yourself and you should never try and please the crowd...

Ok... That said... To the pic...

It could actually very well be a trace... I have an old 'GamePro' mag that I used for my own 'MK montage'... Take note that I am not saying it WAS indeed traced, I am simply saying, the size of the picture in mag would definatley allow it to be traced... If you look my picture up you can see the resemblance... I fliped the image over and changed the praportions of his body to make it more anatomically correct but... I recognize it from the initial pic I used, and like I said... It could have been traced...

Finally (feel like I'm writing an essay...), I am very impressed with the picture... If this was indeed done freehand I must say it's one of the better ones I've seen in a while... If it wasn't done free hand, I would suggest you begin doing some free hand work to let your artistic abilities expand... You obviously have some talent... Keep up the good work...

um, when i was saying "wanting to be an artist" i ment that in a way of being a even better artist by using copy drawing as a begining status and moving on to even better ways of art, i was'nt saying the person wasnt an artist

Sorry dude, but isn't it true that giving a decent critique is all about being perfectly honest, and not sugar-coating anything for the benefit of the person who created the work, just to make sure their feelings aren't hurt? I'm sorry, I just can't do that.

If I see a good piece of work, I will tell that person that it's good. If I don't, I will do my best to tell them what they've done wrong. In this case, they've just copied the drawing of Motaro from the MK3 instruction manual. Yes, it is a good copy, but it's just not original.

Hell, look at Zombie's latest piece of work. THAT is original, because he's completely re-designed Jade, and done a great job of it in the process. THAT is a good piece of work. However, what I see above is not. Sorry if you took offence, but I have seen much more hurtful critiques from many other members, and I've not seen them get punished by you or any other member of the MK5 moderation team.

Yo, there's no need for that, you should edit your post before you get some Skull Points. You can even get banned, so, if you don't want that, edit it before you get Skull Points for that.
If you say you don't need our opinions, then why you send your drawing if you know people are going to comment on it, not to criticize but to help you improve your skills.

I remember warning you about this before, there's no need to get hostile. Submitting your art here gets you replies, simple as that, this forum is quite popular. You must be willing to take the critisism, not only is flaming against the rules here but it also makes this forum respect you less as an artist.

Just trust that if someone makes a comment that is in no way trying to help you progress, action will be taken by a Portal Guard or staff member. However, all the replies here in this thread as of yet seem like they are trying to assist you. I hate closing fan art threads especially, so please just let this issue be resolved.

There is nothing wrong with copying another picture, how else will you improve your lines and pencil skills? Shapes? Art classes often tell you to trace and copy often, as to give you a feel for different styles.

It's a nice pic, very clean lines.

I don't know about the art classes you take, but Mr. McKinley doesn't tolerate that kind of stuff in my class.

dude, your artwork is awesome. I think its a skill in itself to take a picture of someone interesting (like motaro because of his half horse/man features) and re create it yourself wether you do it by tracing, copying, watever. Just take a minute to learn how to accept poeple's critisisms becuase they are only trying to help you. not everyone here is on a mission to put people down for their work.
