So listen... I have a pic that I would like to submit, but I want to know... If I submit my picture to the site do lose my rights on the piece or what? Any replies would be appreciated.

If it's a fan pic you don't really have to copyright anything. Because mortal kombat wasn't your idea. It belongs to Midway, but just stick your signature or tag beneath your pic so we know who did it.

And of course if it is absolutely original with nothing to do with Mortal Kombat at all, well, then it wouldn't belong here, but you would attain copyright the moment you created it...

What I mean though is does MK5.org have the right to use it without my permission or...?

Yeah. That's why I only like displaying my pictures in fan art sections of message boards (that, and I hate JPGs). I mean I wouldn't mind seeing my art on someone's T-shirt, as long as I was getting some money for it...

What do you mean donating the work? In the FAQ it says nothing about them getting to keep it...?

You sign or make no agreement to MK5.org to post your work here. Therefore they have no legal right to use your work in any form without your permission except to display it per their guidelines.

As for copyright, like mentioned earlier, as soon as you create it, it is protected technically. Proving it's yours is another thing. This is usually no problem since you will have the original artwork.

I've dealt with copyright issues many times so if you've got other questions fire away.

Assuming that the work was good enough that they wanted it for shirts or site art... Would they need written permission from me or could they just take it?

Yes they could, but like anybody that rips art from the web, they'd be in the wrong. It would fall to you then to request them to stop or in the extreme get a lawyer involved. If I remember, you were deciding to post art or not. I can tell you that as long as I've been to this site the only art they've used was either donated or done by a mod. If there's money involved it's not general info, AcjBizar would be the one to go to next on that.

Can we just see your art already! When I draw stuff and post it I don't mind them doing whatever with it because, end of the day they are not really my characters. I just want people to see my skills. If I drew a bad ass pic of whatever I know deep down inside that it's not really my work, I'm drawing it cause I'm a fan. You can't actually copyright fan art. So once it's posted anybody can do whatever with your work and not get sued for it so there's no lawyer needed there. Simple as that. So let's see your art.
