*sigh* ... and as before with these damn rivalry fakes, they both chose a similar match-up (like Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung last time)... well, like before, at least there's a different winner.

They're both good in their own way. I will have to take my time to analyze these and write up a decent critique for both.

Entry#1 gets my vote ... I like the sprite edits and the fatality...As a whole the first one is better.The second fake has a really great edit of kano , but I am not a big fan of that sonya edit...Great job , both of you!

Ok, this is totally not bias, favoritism nor pity on my part (trust me), but my vote goes to Entry #2. To be honest, they’re both pretty much on-par with each other in terms of quality and originality, but there are a few very important things that makes #2 stand out just that little bit more.

First and foremost is the sprite editing – that right there is probably one of the best Kano sprite edits I’ve seen in a long time. The jacket especially sells it for me – there was clearly a lot of time and effort put into it. I’m not crazy about the Sonya sprite (especially the jacket), but I think it was done better than Entry #1’s (the patterns and ripples in the jacket and pants just don’t look right to me). The Hsu Hao edit in Entry #1 is impressive, but the head kills it – there was too much editing going on there, to the point where it no longer matched up with the body. It’s still a commendable effort though.

The other big factor is the background. Entry #1’s background isn’t a “unique” enough alteration of the classic MK1 arena; it’s cool that you updated the stone statues and made it daytime, but other than that it doesn’t really grab me. Entry #2’s background is a little better in terms of originality, but it definitely needs some changes (e.g. making the egg and wings darker to match the pitch of the cavern wall behind them.

Good job to both of you guys!

All right saizero, your critique as promised... I can tell you are putting your own personality back into your fakes not only because it has Sonya, but you're using MK1-themed arenas.

You did a pretty good job on those camo pants. I'm glad my advice/experience with attempting that "army guy" sprite a while back could help. Sonya's boobs need to be worked on and so does her blonde hair.

You did great with Hsu Hao. Only complaint I have is the shading on his bald head and also his boots. You did outstanding with that heart implant thing. When I did my sprite, that was a bitch to draw.

The blood is fine. I see you went back to using purely MK blood instead of your own. That's fine. It's what fakes are for.

I am not a fan of the transparent red in the health bars.

The arena is pretty cool. I like how it's a day-time version of the warrior's shrine. The statue cracks look good except Kano's chest. Since it's a statue you should have "dummied down" the level of detail on the sprite and it would look more believable, AND the cracks would have looked a little better. Oh yeah, and I like how you changed the back-drop for the arena. Good job with the fading. However, like fedegita said, it really wasn't that unique of an alteration like the stipulations were outlining.

I am pleased to see the amount of sprite editing in your fakes is increasing. I can't wait to see more from you. Life must be improving if you're able to juggle work, social outings, and MK fakes not even a year after graduating.
