How is being an artist benefiting you?

I'm personally wondering if people can testify to the benefits of being a good artist outside of being able to draw good.
Has it had any good effects on your life all-around?
Let me rephrase a little bit. I know there are benefits, but I'm wondering if anyone here has specific testimonials.

Well, if it wasn't for switching into Fine Arts in college, I wouldn't have met the most gorgeous girl in the world, and have her as my girlfriend now.
^_^
But that doesn't really count I guess. :p

Well, with all the fine art and graphic design courses I've taken, I was been able to intern at a great public relations firm that allowed me to use my illustration and design skills to produce good work for them and thier clients.
* I designed a cover and chapter images for a publication for the Solidarity Center.
* I came up with the original concept for the Senior Service America logo.
* I've done production work on numerous issues of publications for unions such as Utility Workers Union of America and Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association.
* For the Utility Workers Union of America I also designed their History Book that told of the unions history from the "New Deal" to "Deregulation".
I can say that with the additional work that I've done for Fingerhut, Powers, and Smith, I can show my work to any employer and be confident that my work will be well recieved.
Even though I'm also trying to become a screenwriter, I know that I can get a design job to support my other interests as well as my primary ones. I also want to get into 3D design and rendering. I have Lightwave and Bryce to work from as well. And with the web design courses I've taken, I feel that my skills are more diverse since businesses are looking for designers who have knowledge of designing for the web. And I still haven't forgotton my fine arts origins cause I plan on submitting something here next week.
I really can't say much more that what I already have. I hope this answers your question.

Hmm, what did I get out of it. I joined art communities online and I met a pair of my good friends through it. I'm participating in th Artist Alley at the Anime convention and making a few bucks every fourth of July... And it's about the only thing that attracts people to me, seeing my nose buried in a sketch book and the pencil furiously flying. And then they ask if I draw porn. *nods*
No real big benefits, I guess. I could have lived without this urge to illustrate and create.

Well first off I'm not that great an artist (check my section in the fan submission section for proof), and rarely even draw at all anymore, mainly because I get frustrated rather quickly.
That being said, drawing has had some benefits for me. Years ago, when I drew much more frequently, I had a friend who drew comic books. So that was one of our common interests, and it was a big part of our friendship (which was arguably one of the best friendships I've ever had). Most of the drawing I do now is just doodling in my notebooks during class, which at least helps aleviate the boredom.
Most of the "art" I've created in the past several years has not been visual, but misical. My fretboard is my canvas, my guitar pick is my brush (or pen or pencil). I know this isn't the type of "art" this thread was meant to discuss, but I feel this is the best way I can contribute to the topic. Anyway, writing guitar riffs and lyrics has been an excellent creative outlet for me. Also, my ability as a guitarist as a guitarist and song writer earned me the respect of many of my peers in high school. Sorry if this doesn't fit what you hoped for in a response, but it's the best answer I can give.

Well I'm pretty sure if not for art related avenues I'd be dead. Okay not literally but figuratively.
I've got one of those odd brains (I would suspect lots of people here are the same way) where everything I see, hear, feel usually gives me an idea of something to create. If I didn't have an avenue to see these ideas to reality my head would explode, or I'd just go crazy.

Problem with one of those types of brains is that I hardly finish or get around to anything. Now if it's a job, no problem. It's all the hundreds of other ideas that can overwhelm me. At least it keeps me busy.
So there you go, a benifit I draw from art is survival.

ps. As far as music, Carnage, I see no difference between drawing, painting, writing, performing or any of the other fine arts.

I wasn't saying music wasn't an art form, or that I didn't consider myself, as a musician, to be an artist. It's just that the thread is in the fan art section, and I've never seen a thread in the art forum pertaining to music.
Also, I think there is an important difference between drawing/painting, writing, performing (ie. theater), and playing music. Drawing and painting are spatial; playing music is temporal; and writing is verbal. Performance, in the sense of a play or a movie, is really a combination of the three.

Well let me clarify then. I do all the things I listed earlier (drawing, painting, writing, performing). Most of them professionally. Add sculpting, script writing, music composition etc. You have to wear many hats when you are your own production company. When I say I don't see a difference, I mean the thought process is the same, the feeling is the same and the reward is the same... FOR ME. Maybe it's different for you and if you have no experience in those other fields then you wouldn't know.
My comment was to say I didn't have a problem with Carnage talking about music since clearly he wanted justification.
