It depends on the scanner. I've got a scanner at home. I just click a button on the front of it and it scans the picture and it opens up in an editing program on the computer. Just make sure that the scanner is installed and plugged in. That might seem too simple to solve the problem, but you'd be surprised how many people forget to plug things in. What make/model scanner do you have? What does the instruciton manual say? Make sure the scanner is step up correctly.
