I think the main concern of that fan-fic would be the "farfetch" difference.
While Resident Evil is essentially SciFi, Mortal Kombat is full blown mystical mumbo jumbo. Reconciling those things is what I think is the main issue to have a story that isnt barf. While you take an approach to the MK universe similar to the live ction series, a little more "realistic," that fits the RE saga more, it would be kinda boring and it'd be more fun to see you personally take on the task.
