I particularly like the ornate jewelry on Kitana and Mileena and their head jewels as well, they actually look very high class, exotic royal assassins.

I hope so. It's going to depend on how much time I have. But I will certainly try. Part of the difficulty is coming up with pairings for each character in versus pictures. Kitana vs. Mileena is obvious, as are one's like Sonya vs. Kano or Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung. But some of them are more difficult. Who would Jax be fighting? Would Scorpion fight Sub-Zero (his traditional nemesis), or Noob Saibot (who, being the original Sub-Zero, makes more sense as his nemesis)? And the list goes on.

Hsu Hao was his most direct rival...but nobody seems to like him and now he might not even exist.

A rivalry with Kintaro was hinted in the MK2 comic, but never followed up on.

Could always do Kano twice, maybe draw him punching his eyeball out, lol.

I am aware of that. The developers actually mentioned that Hsu Hao was created as a sort of anti-Jax.
And, I did make a list of every character and their main rival for the purposes of something like this. (Some of the rivals are better than others.) In that list I did pit Hsu Hao against Jax.
I just used Jax as an example before, because most people try to set him up with a rivalry against Kano (especially after Mortal Kombat (2011)), while pretending that Hsu Hao never existed. I, personally, will only ever see Sonya and Kano as rivals.

Maybe a better example would be someone like Nightwolf or Stryker.



For the purposes of the Mortal Kombat-inspired novel I'm attempting, Jax vs. Hsu Hao is much more dramatic! ::diabolical laugher::



Good idea, but, no. I suppose I'm being unnecessarily strict on myself, but repeating a character would throw off my sense of "balance."

WOW! That shading really does a lot, doesn't it! They both look pretty awesome.I think it would be cool if you did this for all of your characters.

It really shows in all the intricate details and I looked at your previous drawings of Kitana and Mileena and it's cool to see the contrast between them and your latest editions to the characters, particularly Mileena is noteable.

Scorpion v.s Noob(the rivalry started with them more or less)

i would do Scorpion v.s. Quan Chi as my first choice though based on the screwed up nature of their relationship, Quan Chi is truly Scorpion's worst enemy and rival.



Sub-Zero v.s. Sektor( it seems like that's going to be coming up again in the canon)

Jax and Kintaro as Razor mentioned would be a possibility.

This looks great. It has a different style unlike all the other Mileena/Kitana costumes, these actually make them look normal. I also like that they are actually wearing clothes for once unlike all the other costumes. Great job man 5/5

Obviously some of those fit better than others. Some of them, I envisioned more as professional rivalries (i.e. Kobra vs. Kira, who are trying to out do one another to earn their place in the Black Dragon). Some of them, I envisioned more as tragic rivalries (i.e. Sub-Zero vs. Smoke, because Smoke cannot overcome his programming, and Sub-Zero is forced to either fight his best friend or die). Alas, for some of them, I just couldn't come up with anything better, so I plan on writing in a sort of rivalry in my novel.

Although, if you have ANY suggestions for any changes to the above list, please let me know. Because, I may end up making 32 different vs. pictures modeled off that list.

Dairou doesn't really have anything to do with Havik, I'd switch him and Hotaru around, since Darrius killed his family and basically played the Quan Chi to his Scorpion.

Point taken. But Darrius doesn't really have anything to do with Havik either. And Darrius is the leader of the resistance fighting Seidan government (enforced by Hotaru and the Seidan Guard).

Ignore the above. I misread your original post. For some reason I thought you were suggesting making it Darrius vs. Havik and Dairou vs. Hotaru (Darrius and Dairou's names are so goddamn similar). You're absolutely right! I'll make that change!

Also...unless you have a reason for Ermac vs. Blaze that I'm unaware of, I'd maybe switch it so it's Rain vs. Blaze, so you have a son of Argus in there, and Stryker vs. Ermac so it's an MK3 good guy vs. an MK3 bad guy? Or maybe Ermac vs. Skarlet since they're both red creations of Kahn but one turns good, and Stryker vs. Reptile?
Might suggest switching Sareena and Fujin around too. She never really did have a history with Reiko but she does hate Quan, and Fujin was kinda like a general of the good guys in 4, so he could make a decent Reiko rival.

I hat pitted Ermac against Blaze because they're both obscenely powerful, and I saw it as a sort-of fair match.

Rain vs. Stryker would be an MK3 good guy vs. an UMK3 bad guy too.

But, to be honest, I pitted Skarlet against Reptile and Rain and Stryker because I couldn't think up better matches. Rain vs. Blaze is good, though...but with those six, there's a good chance that, as my novel continues, their nemeses might switch amongst each other, since their rivalries are not strong.

I already (barely) started a bit of the rivalry between Fujin and Quan Chi in my third chapter (which is posted somewhere on Mortal Kombat Online, but also here). But, in regards to Sareena and Reiko, I actually have a really good reason behind their rivalry (sort of a twist) that will be revealed in the fourth chapter (which I'm writing).

I dunno, it's just that Reptile/Skarlet doesn't make a lick of sense since they're on the same side.
