So for my webcomic I want use some 'kombat damaged' sprites for when the characters get hurt that I can just keep re-using the same sprites. I have tried to make some quick ones, but my sprite editing skills aren't quite up to part (see example below) was wondering if anyone could help me with making a 'kombat damage' sprite sheet for Scorpion? Thanks - advice never hurts either, if the advice helps me make the sprites work than that is great too!

The one you made looks great dude, besides the arm. And a whole sheet?!

Well, here's what you might want to try
-Smashed masks
-Try to keep in mind that pieces of armor aren't going to get broken/damaged taht easily, so have a good idea of where to put your scratches. And tears.
-Make sure the cuts and marks look realistic
Here's a quick thing I did to show you (I'm not the best editor)



-Notice how the mask has been smashed and skin has been ripped off to reveal his reptilian face
-There's a bleeding hole in his chest from something like scorpion's spear.
-The armor isn't cut
-He's still standing strong like a true MK character would.
-His gashes and cuts are bleeding, not just showing skin
-His cuts show battle marks from what cou;d've actually happened (ie the spear, a fan in mid-air, low dragon fire etc)

Keep all this in mind and you should be good to go.

Didn't even think about the broken masks, I will definitely have to keep that in mind to add in for some of the characters - I think Lui Kang (Red Ninja) or Shang Tsung (Yellow Ninja) in my webcomic would likely be best for that damage type. Link is in my signature for my webcomic "MMKR - Mighty Mortal Kombat Rangers" if you are not familiar with what I'm talking about.

You also brought up a good point about the armor not easily being damaged and what type of damage was being incurred such as fireball - made me think about smoke and fire damage to some of the armor/suit instead of just tears. I will have to see what I can come up with.

Glad you liked my advice, I saw the comic, not bad, Bezou also dfid the MMKRs in his Adventures of Spirit Liu comic. Although I can't say I like your ideas of the secret identities
Looks like you're already off to a good start. If you're going for a full sheet, remember to keep the damage consistant, so wounds aren't moving around, and flashing or whatever.

Cyrax, that's awesome and again thanks for you help with this.
So here is the premise. For my story I have six (one is a twin) MK characters morph into Kombat Rangers (Scorpion with palette swap/hue change) and in the end I would like to be able to make a ranger specific sheet for each one for their specific damages, but thought I would start out small (reason for initial mention of just doing a scorpion one, then I could palette swap as needed and use the same damage for each). So, if you want to help with just Scorpion's yellow sprite with one of these character's normal colors (Lui probably the easiest) then we can worry about the color changes later or if you want to help work on each one seperately that would be great too.

Here are what I am currently using for each chacacter and a plan of what I was going to try for their battle damages:

Blue Kombat Ranger - Kano

Damages:
I kind of like the missing boot from the first post - I think it's just kind of funny and will likely try to keep those (or similar) damages for him to make his edit's easy, plus having a damaged mask for his bald head would look funny. :)
I also just relized I forgot to color the blue correctly for this character as he is supposed to have Blue blood and not red.

Green Kombat Ranger - Kona (Kano's Twin)

Damages:
Nothing specific on him yet.
He should have Green blood.

Purple Kombat Ranger - Tristin

Damages:
Was thinking with him to maybe go with the eye scar theme and maybe give him a slash acrossed the eye (tear in his mask) with maybe some extra skin showing - but not too much to reveal his identity to the enemies. :)
Other basic random damages - non-specific at this point.
He should have Purple blood.

Red Kombat Ranger - Liu Kang

Damages:
I like the idea of having his mask torn and showing some of his face (again not enough to give away his identity) and maybe a full holes/tears exposing his hair.
He should have Rainbow colored blood.

Turquoise Kombat Ranger - Nightwolf

Damages:
His I haven't fully decided on yet, but was thinking something very area specific like maybe lost of damage to his arms only or just one leg kind of thing (he's kind of the dummy of the group and I think it would be kind of funny). He would have normal Red blood.

Yellow Kombat Ranger - Shang Tsung

Damages:
As this character is my Healer, and not a very good fighter - he should be just all jacked up. As much damage as you want. :) But still keeping his secret identity.

Wow that is a lot of info, didn't realize how big of a task this might end up being (might have to try to do my sheets with just the standing sprites first and deal with crouched, etc sprites later) - might be a little too much. But as I was saying in the begining if I'm able to great a good sheet of just one character (yellow ranger likely the easiest) then I can build off of the and do any coloring needed for it. Looks like the right leg is slightly off - should be easy fix and the left leg's gash is a little jumpy, but better than what I was doing - the single sprites I was making seemed ok, but mine would be all over the place if animated.

and yes. I will give full credit where due for anything anyone else makes that I use.

PS - love the shang face part!

Here is the new one animated - the last one or two sprites damage on the left leg was still jumping up for some reason, but I edited to move the spot down 1-2 pixels.



left leg seems to move alot - but I think it's just because of how fast the character himself is moving. Excellent work.

Honestly, I really actually HATE the Kona thing, I don't like Kano to begin with, and a twin c'mon :\, seriously, you should make a second breed, I could help you out, either totally different generation, or they give their powers to someone else. Other than that, the comic is good.

Yeah, there's a little more to the twin thing with his back story that hasn't been revealed yet and I have actually been looking at the transfer of powers to other characters (ala mighty morphin power rangers) but haven't decided on who/what due to the lack of digitized sprites I can choose from. I was thinking about using the gen1 version for a possible 'origins' story, but don't know if I want to use them for that or not.

What would you like to see as a replacement for Kona? An evolution or making him become more cyborg or you think I should try to make a new character?

PS - this is the kind of feed back that is always helpful.

Custom's are always good - I should let you know though since I haven't updated the bios section in a while that the 'souls' power has developed more into a 'healing' power.

Thought it was ironic and interesting that instead of the normal Shang Sould stealing he actually heals - though violently. Here's are some examples:

In Episode 10 Liu was pretty much dead and to revive him Shang charged his hand and slammed him in the chest really hard.

Introducing the NEW green ranger, something not even the REAL power rangers has done (as far as I know) REPTILE!!!



I gave him the qualities of a ranger, tight fitting uscle shirt (tongue) wristbands, and kung fu-ish pants. Made with Reptile, Liu Kang, and Stryker, I amde 2 designs. Yeah, making a foreign creature a ranger is something never done before. That and, being a Reptile fan and Kano hater...yeah :P although I tried to make him look non-ninja so taht it could work. Hope you like it. (the idea at least). IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING, ITS NOT PAINTED BLACK, ITS DARK TINTED, if you have the correct brightness, yuo should be able to see the muscles
