I'm surprised to see, or at least haven't seen so far, a thread about micro heroes on this page, so here it is...For those of you who do not know what micro heroes are, here is a link to a site with a bunch of them. The site itself has other micro heroes than MK, but since thats the subject I'm on, I'll focus on the link to those.

http://jerome.galica.free.fr/divers/mortalkombat/mortalkombat.htm

One thing about this site, though it is very nice and has been updated over the years, is that updates are rare in the MK portion. Therefore, I went searching for more MH's and came across Midway forums on IGN.com, who have had multiple threads in the past about requesting them. There, I found that there are quite a few people who make these, especially Mortal Kombat ones. I have seen many amazing MH's as compared to the ones made a while back, and also some MH's as recent as MK vs DC which looked amazing, so creators seem to be getting better every day.

The way these are made is with pixel editing in paint. I mainly take parts of other micro heroes other people have created, use them if I can, editing what parts I need to get the look I'm going for, and make custom parts from scratch if I need to. One thing that helps when making these, is SAVING AS A ".PNG" type file. Most people save them as JPEG, which messes with the colors and adds unnecessary pixels which can make it quite difficult to go back and edit certain parts. .PNG works much better to save micro heroes under.

Oh and one more thing. Many creators are kinda touchy about their works, which is understandable, as making some of these can take quite a while and can get rather aggravating. So, if anyone requests a micro hero, and you just so happen to know where one is instead of want to make one yourself, or if you use another person's work to mainly create a micro hero which has been edited little by yourself, please give the link to the site or post the micro hero with the author's username and what site it came from. In other words, if you just simply feel like you need to give credit where credit is due, please make it a point.

With that all said, here are a few of my works.

This is Kintaro from Mortal Kombat 2...I edited him using parts from the Kintaro created by "xplayermk" on Midway's MK forums on IGN.com. A lot was taken off of the MH from that site, and the shoulder pads were customly made. His feet were made from one of the Goro MH's I found on the link above, changing the color to suit Kintaro's skin.

And here is Smoke from MK: Shaolin Monks....
I couldn't find a MH anywhere of anything close to his look in the game, so these were done totally from scratch, using few parts from other MH's. On the left is the first model I done, where he has sleeves and normal colored skin. On the right is the sleeveless version with gray skin, as he was exactly in MK:SM

Right now, the main reason I am so interested in these is because I am using them for a MK RPG game I am working on.

Dig the MKSM Smoke one. I never got a good look at him in the actual game so I can't say if it's accurate or not :[

Yeah, I was lucky enough to come across this video on Youtube where someone used an action replay to switch the character models used as Liu Kang and Kung Lao during the cutscenes. I just paused the vid whenever it showed a porton of Smoke which I needed to get, mostly during the Red Portal scene with Raiden.

This is what I'm interested in, what kind of RPG are you making? A playable video game, or like a forum-based game?
Also, here's a Shaolin Monk I whipped up real quick:

Its an RPG using RPG Maker 2003. It is an actual overhead-view RPG where you walk on maps such as Shang Tsung's Island and Outworld. There are no random battles (yet) and I do not really plan to have them in the game. All of your enemies are fought in succession and can be seen on the map or whichever area they are in. The engine used for 2000 would have been more appropriate, as the battle system dosen't show an avatar actually battling, and has the enemy facing you. The 2003 edition was made to have a battle system with the monster on the left, facing the party situated on the right, so there was no attention on the screen as if the enemy themselves were looking at you. However, I liked many features that 2003 offered which 2000 didn't, so the battle system is set up with the character facing towards the screen (using the micro's as the monster character), with the battle avatar on the right, which is supposed to be there mainly for seeing what your character is actually doing (whether they are stunned, attacking, being hit, etc.)

The game is set up, taking place during the events of MK 1-3, and will use the storylines accordingly. You take control of a Mercenary, hired by Shang Tsung to help him during the first tournament. But you are then given the choice to side with Raiden instead, relinquish your evil past of mercenary work, and fight for Earth. Depending on which side you choose, the enemies you face are set up as the opposing side. The story changes accordingly.

---The Micros which I used in the beginning were all from the link to the site I posted in the first post, however many of them look too similar, only changing the color of their clothes (which the actual games did anyway), but upon realizing that this could get rather boring, I wanted to incorporate other variations of the characters into the game, as long as they do look like they came from that portion of the story of have (such as in Shaolin Monks) been seen within that time period wearing a certain outfit.

Put simply, I started using say Shaolin Monks Micros for some of the MK2 enemies which you will face.

--EDIT-- I recently made a Reptile in his Mortal Kombat 4/Gold Alternate (ninja) Outfit...Its quite basic, as the parts I used came from Micros on the site in the first post which were created a while back, adding colors for the suit color.

Here is the link to a quick video I uploaded which includes the opening title, story, and first battle of the game, so that everyone can get an idea of what it is that I am working on....The video has no sound, and the player's level has been set to 99 (maxed out).
