Can anyone give me some pointers on body proportions, because I suck at getting body part correct size.
I know that the head of an average fully-grown male is 1/8 his full body height. How do the other body parts scale up? Is there a diagram I can use?

Well it all depends on your style.
Sometimes when I draw, I use sort of a graffiti style where the proportions are totally blown and they look very cartoony with thin limbs and large hands and feet and head. Other times I try to stay true to actual human physique. In order to both actually... you need to know about the human body.
The best way to do that is know how a normal human's body would be. No one overly muscular or anything, just normal muscle and bone structure.

That's Bones
Ones you know how a body is supposed to be, you can start expanding places to show huge muscles (or add extra limbs for those Shokan drawings).
Here's the next step. Once you have the human anatomy down, either invest money on an Anatomy Figure or just a normal Action Figure who's body is in proportion to your liking. Make sure they're highly articulated (multiple moving joints) and pose them and try to copy it. This will not only help you with poses, but also determine where shadows and light will be.
One last thing, carry a sketchbook with you, even if it's just a spiral notebook... AT ALL TIMES! You could be on the train or in the park and you'll see someone with an awesome set of clothes and in a pose you want to jot down. Make a quick sketch of everything you find interesting, because you can use them later on! Just... try not to stare at your subject when you do that. That might creep them out...
I hope that helps. If you want anymore tips or pointers, I will try to help you out.
Good Luck!

Thank you!
I've been looking at 3d drawing as well so I can start doing proper animations instead of the crappy ones I normally do, as well as body animation.

This is probably one of the best reference / tut sites ive run across that deals with the human figure. For proportional stuff, check out the male and female body sections.
lots other good stuff here too
