Correct link to your first fake


I was about to go to bed and spotted this - wish I had time to write everything.

Summarized: you did better with the effects this time. Stage doesn't match characters. Fatality sucks. Nice life bars. Score: 2/5

I will give a full critique tomorrow. I have a big list of shit for you.

Well I'm awake so here goes nothin'

1.The size of the background seems way too big for the sprite size being used. Makes Raiden look like a midget. Maybe I'm just seeing this all wrong. Perhaps Raiden is standing too far down on the background?

Let's take a look...



On second thought... Raiden is too tall AND he is standing way too long on the ground.

2. The lightning effects are done MUCH better than before. I really can't complain. One thing I don't care for are Raiden's glowing eyes. You did a decent job on the "electric skull" effects. The only things that really stick out are Baraka's rib cage and his thigh leg bones. Aside from that, you really have to squint your eyes and use your imagination to see the rest of the skeleton.

3. The fatality itself is no real drastic improvement over your original idea. Why the hell would electricity make the opponent magically split into two? Well this is Mortal Kombat... and I've seen worse *cough* Quan Chi's neck pull *cough* so I guess this isn't so bad. The blood effects look beautiful. A little too "cartoony" though, but it fits Mortal Kombat's blood so that won't be a big complaint.

4. The life bars are nice, but the run energy bars look a bit silly with the fade. I think the best life bars you've done were with your *new* Skarlet fake. Maybe cuz they're similar to mine I dunno? The timer looks terrible. I hate that font. Don't use it ever again. Where are the win counts?

You should do something else instead of always trying to re-invent your old fakes. I know you like improving yourself; a quality that is rare around here when it comes to fake. Sometimes a bad idea is just that... a bad idea.

Maybe come up with a better fatality instead of "oh this guy explodes in half" - I will admit even I do the whole ripped in half shit way too much.

By the way, where the hell did your avatar go? I thought you got banned for a second.

While I do like the work done to the Baraka sprite, pretty authentic and believable, the rest of the fake seems bland.

The lightning doesn't sit right in my eyes.. I personally would have raised the opacity.

I agree with BS on the timer font, I've never been a fan of it either. The rest of the lifebars, while custom, seem uninspired.

I do like the win indicators (not to be confused with the win counter), but I do wish they were a little crisper than they currently are.

The background is boring, I feel like it could have used more personality.

Not too much of a fan of the idea either. I realize there isn't much to do that hasn't been done, but I think there are better ideas. Honestly, anymore I think it comes down to the execution of a solid idea to make a good fake anymore because everything seems like any idea has been done, and sometimes too many times.

It's okay though, not everything can be a masterpiece. I'm still looking forward to what you produce in the future, if that helps at all.

I thought the background was original until I remembered MKMSZ. Raiden should be put up a little more, but the lifebars are fantastic, may I use them if that's okay?

Yeah I was surprised myself to see her make a fake without making her own background... or AT LEAST changing something in it to make it her own.

I suggest that you create your own life bars. If you're incapable of creating original life bars, then you probably shouldn't be in the fake picture industry in the first place.

I'll critique this fake at a later time/date. Got a few qualms with it that have yet to be mentioned, as well as a bit of advice to aid you in your next rendition of this idea.
