As some of you remember in my last fake pic thread i said that i was experimenting with save types in MSpaint well this is what i found out: Saving your work as .BMP(Bitmap)-some people on the board says it saves your quality.but from what i found out it dosent maybe because im using paint.anyway you'll get a real blurry look your pic will look foggy.plus you'll have to wait awhile while your pic is loading mainly because of the file size. saving your work as .JPG(i dont know what JPG stands for)-i found out that JPG is just a little better than BMP. the goods of jpg:the file size will load quicker, you can upload it to MK5.org, wont come out as foggy.but this will really bring down your color quality(if you use yellow it will turn light yellow). Saving your work as .gif (i dont know what gif stands for) okay this is one of the best i've used your colors will stay it will come out cleaner giving your picture a neater look.file size will load really fast, uploading to a site will take awhile but its worth it.the bad of .gif-your stil not getting your quality you want. saving your work as .png-this really is the same thing as .gif if your using paint for some programs you'll get a sharp look.back on MSpaint.good of .png-if you darken your background using dots your dots wont show up it will look like the darkening from the background.the bad of .png-not to bad its the best you can ask for. saving your work as .dib(i dont know what it stands for)i havent seen to many people using .dib in paint its like right between saving it as a .gif and saving it as a jpg and a just a tilt over .png so its like a 50 50 chance i havent used it to much.the bad of .dib one side of your pic is blurry the other side is clear great quality. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Also it depends on which site you use to host your pics some are good some are bad some are okay here are some sites: www.webshots.com -this was one of my first sites to host my fakes.if you save your pic as bmp it may just switch to a jpg and you dont want that webshots will also change your file name it's not to much of a big deal for me though.but webshots is good if you take pictures with a digital camera from your pc. www.freewebs.com -my second site to host my fakes.it was good alot better than webshots if your uusing fakes.you'll keep your file name, your quality is better, plus you get a free website with it. but its another 50 50 chance:some time your picture will show some times it wont so i suggest posting your pic and also posting a direct link.its a great site hoster. www.sharemation.com -im currently using sharemation to host my fakes and its the best i've used out the other 2.you'll be able to share your files meaning other users who are trying to view your picture will not recieve a RED X something looking like this:[X]just dont forget to turn on the share to the public and your all set.your quality is just a little better than freewebs and webshots.but if you darken your background save your pic as .png so your dots wont show.thats all i have to say about fakes now.i hope this helps.-Words of DRFATALITY
I'm not so sure about that DRFATALITY. I use Paint quite often, and its the only program i have on this computer. I have been doing some sprite edits for a fake and saving them as .bmp files at the moment. The clarity does not change for me, but anytime I save it as .jpg or .gif, Paint warns me of a loss of color information, and it really screws whatever I am working on up. You have to make sure that you are saving it as the right bitmap, as my selections range from 16 colors, 256 colors, and 24-bit. I save them as 24-bit, and the quality never has decreased for me.

In Paint if you're not saving it as a bitmap (.bmp file), then I wouldn't save it under anything else. Simply because Paint kinda sucks at saving at other formats, gif, jpeg, it isn't that good at any of them.
I find the best way to decrease the filesize of a pic dramatically, while still retaining all (or most) of it's quality is import the saved bitmap into a Gif Animator (which there are thousands of), and save it as a gif there (saving as a gif in Paint isn't as good). If you haven't used too many colours in the bitmap, it should be fine.
I'm lead to believe the best format is .png, but I haven't had much experience with it.
Any good program such as PaintShop Pro and Photoshop, can handle jpeg conversions without a dramatic loss of quality (some is though).
Basically, I just wouldn't use paint to save image files as anything else but bitmaps.
