Where did you learn to draw? just give a simple idea of what your skills and techniques are and where you got them from. It would be interesting to know where some of this talent comes from and what kinds of techniques are used to achieve some of these awesome effects.
Personally, i have almost completely taught myself to draw. i had a How To Draw Aliens book for a couple weeks in 6th grade, and that's it; i've never had a class on how to draw. From that book, i took the technique of using basic shapes to plan an image before adding details. i always try to get some kind of depth using smudged shading, but im sarting to get away from smudging because it ruins the paper. Most of the things i've learned, i've picked up by looking at drawings online, in comic books, in forums like this one, and at actual photos.

I've also basically taught myself my own style of drawing. I picked up this book in elementary on how to draw superheros and that got the basic anatomy down for me, and the rest I just improvise on. I also used to smudge shade but I prefer to just do gradual penciling now that I've become more comfortable with the technique. For inspiration or for details I usually refer to other drawings to get the basic shape but I never trace. This is an interesting topic, good idea iffrit.

I've answered a post like this before here but anyway.
I've drawn since I was 2. I've taken many classes, I've read many books, I've watched many videos. The source of it all is practice, which I don't have nearly enough time for. I've mostly focused on 3D work for the last 5-7 years. I've only recently taken the pencil up again (last 3 years). Seeing as how 3D pays and 2D doesn't it's hard to get motivated.
Speaking of 3D, anyone else seen the announcement for the $million mod contest from Epic for UT2k3. Most of my attention is focused there right now!

i heard this somewhere a long time ago and this pretty much how i see it. . . . every piece of art that you create is preperation for your next work and the culmination of everything you have learned from your previous works. you can never have a "masterpiece" because the next thing you do will incorporate things you learned previously learned.
man suit, you have the creapiest shading technique i can think of. im not saying it's bad. it's actually really freaking cool. but i've tried like hell to do that for the longest time, and i just can't even visualize the patterns needed to create contours like i want to using that method. how the heck do you do that stuff?
i mean, i can see that you use cross hatching and what not, but that's not the tricky part. what you do looks more like cell-shading kinda. you know what im talking about, the kind in comic books mostly, where something is either in the light or it's not. how do you make that stuff believable?
Just wondering, do you paint a image in your mind before you draw what you want or do you just make something up like that? What I do is just freestyle, dont think to hard on what your going to draw, just do someting plain then start adding the texture. Check out the "Kain" drawing, theres a new one at the bottom. As you can see the drawing at the bottom right corner has no depth yet the one in the center has a shit load of detail. Start from scratch. Make a plain drawing then start adding detail to every crevice.
I sometimes do that but most of the time I just start on one area, mostly the head and put all the detail on it then move on to the body.

typically, i visualize an entire image before i begin. but i dont draw the finished product flat out. i go through a series of planning stages. line or dot skeleton, wire frame skeleton (bubbles and basic shapes), then i add detail, then i shade. you will see the result of my more serious work when what's his name finally posts my pic i submitted like 3 days ago. typically though, my drawings are much darker, and much more detailed than the one i have on this site. the thing is though, that i want to be able to draw using different styles. because different styles give different qualities and feels to a work. you know what i mean?

I got inspired to draw from seeing a friend of mine's drawings. I learned through books and internet tutorials.
Although you will always see me downplaying my artistic ability, the truth is that any one of my crappy drawings today beats anything from 3 years ago.

Level design, most of the ones I make are for my friends clan. They only play CTF-instagib now so it limits my creativity as the levels should be quick and easy to hop around in. I'll have to readjust my thinking and get back to normal weapons combat it looks like.
