Tremor: Prototype Cyber-ninja concept sketch
Artist's Remarks: | |
The current discussion on Tremor over in the 2011 forum got me thinking of ways to make Tremor unique. I've had enough regular ninjas, and enough cyber-ninjas, so I tried to go for something in between. Inspiration for the character comes from Batman's villain Bane, and the Transformers' Rumble. I'd color it, but that would take several days to get it the way I want it, and the notion of spending several anythings on Tremor makes me gag a little.

Tremor, activate the Cyrax cassette!
The eyes being held open reminds me of Gaara, but, imo looks odd here.
I hope people don't complain that the arms are like Jax, "just like his ground pound"

Reminds me of Bane from Batman.
Don't really get a "Tremor" feel from it.

That's the point really; I find Tremor to be an unremarkably shitty character, so I figured I'd try my hand at reworking him from the ground up. Only things I kept were his shin and knee-pads.
A bio for this version would go something along the lines of this:
A double agent, Tremor has long maintained a tenuous membership with both the Lin Kuei and Black Dragon. When the former begin automating their warriors, Tremor, initially passed over for the process, steals vital blueprints and delivers them to the Black Dragon. As a reward, he requests that a modified form of the procedure be performed on him, one that will leave him with his free will intact, but with the fearsome destructive capacity of a mechanical powerhouse.

I understand, and it's an interesting concept. Perhaps I should have said I don't really get a "gaiamancer" feel from him.

I think it's probably being a bit too generous to the Bane design to suggest a few pipes constitute an obvious referencial comparison, but I digress...
Personally, I'd lose the torture aspect going on around his eyes... That seems like the confused Rebirth style vision of MK that some fans have developed, but never actually existed. Gives it a pointlessly unpleasant, grimey flavour more akin to BioFREAKS, or other unrefined post-MK imitators.
With Tremor, you've got two in-built ways to make him a cyborg.
Either he picks up one of the little enhancements the Black Dragon seem to be apt at dealing out, or he got absconded by the Lin Kuei post-MKSF (entirely plausible) and mechanized. Ultimately, I think those logics lock you in to a design pattern than isn't present in your concept, which would be an instant deal breaker for me.
I like the effort. I think the more people can think of Tremor as a character rather than another palette swap design (good or bad), the better. Ironically, if it were me, and I were to assume that the Lin Kuei actually do have a reason to dress in similar uniform, I'd probably try to keep an aspect of that present, with a Black Dragon twist. Just my thought.
