Who would be interested in an animation contest?

This was an idea talked a while back when Crow hosted the official fake pic/drawing contest, which was a success for drawings, but the idea for an animation one kind of died away when the fake pic contest had no entrants.

But still, I think there are a few more animators around now (submitting to the ]ombat pavillion in particular) so, following a recommendation from Crow, this thread asks:

Would anybody be interested in an animation contest?

Preferably to enter, but if not to watch, heh.
Obviously I would, but is there anybody else?

True, but you never know, he might still be around.
I think he recently submitted some of his old ones to the ]ombat pavillion too.

It's not like Flash Crash is the best, or even close to the best.

Besides, we've had lots of contests without him and they went fine.

I say yay. I'll watch.

It seems like a good solid idea.. I personally miss seeing the amount of flash animations that where around her at one point in time. It seem's like a fading art style, If I knew how to do it I would enter but animation isen't my thing. So I say do it.

Hey, no fair!!!
Lol, well, at least if there is a contest you know what you're getting out of me, lol.
Still, we'll have to see grin.

Torchia Wrote:

I would have thought it would be both, as not everybody knows how to do flash animations, similarly that flash animators wouldn't be as happy with making gif's, heh.
Really it doesn't matter which as long as there is a resulting animation.

That's just a lame excuse tongue.
Edit: I am going to make an animation tutorial so that anybody who doesn't know can enter smile. Especially you SST smile.

Well, so far that would be at least four entrants.
I would say that's enough, plus haven't heard from Shirt Ninja and I noticed there are some new animators creeping up.

In that case then, I'll talk to Crow about it and see about making an official one smile.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I would be interested in hosting such a contest if I knew there would be fair amount of participants, and by 'fair' I mean anything from three to any larger numeral.

What sort of guidelines would you all like to see? Give me suggestions in this thread if you would.

Okay, my ideal set of guidelines:

1 - Animations may be either Flash (.swf) animations or GIF (.gif) animations.
2 - Animating a fatality/other finishing move set in MK1/2/3/UMK3/Trilogy using Mortal Kombat characters (sprites) (aka no SF or other fighting game characters).
3 - Animation should contain no footage of fight before "Finish Him" (except maybe one hit), i.e. the animation starts at "Finish Him" or as the finishing move starts.
4 - Only one finisher (no MK-Outtakes kind of thing)
5 - No advanced interaction (Flash) i.e. no pressing buttons to do the fatality etc. Only interaction would be "Play" and "Replay" clickable buttons.
6 - Nudealities/Sexualities/Similar Content disallowed.
7 - Contestants cannot vote.

Btw, thanks Crow for showing an interest smile.

Oh yeah, what I meant was as long as there's no proper fight footage, because then it's not really the finishing move that your watching.
As for the sexuality, I think you already learned your lesson tongue.

Still, it's Crow's decision, those are just some guidelines I took from my last contest, heh.

These seem like the perfect guidelines to me. One last detail I'd like input on is the deadline. In the official contest, users were given more than a month to create their drawings/fakes. Even with that large amount of time, we were unable to receive any entrants in the fakes portion of the contest.

Should the time limit be longer or shorter? Thoughts and suggestions, please.

~Crow~ Wrote:

I personally think a month is pretty much perfect.
It gives plenty of time for ideas on what to do and how to animate and to actually do it too.

That's my thought at least smile.
