Ed pinned an announcement to his twitter feed that he, along with original devs Dan Forden, John Vogel and a few others, will be at NY Comic Con with a 25th Anniversary Mortal Kombat discussion panel. Gameplay trailer for Hellboy will drop at this panel. However, there is also an interesting tidbit - rumor has it that as part of the 25th anniverasry panel discussion, Mortal Kombat XI (or 11, or just the next MK) will be officially announced along with some minor details.

I'm looking forward to this. To those wondering, I'll say only that my source that has been dark for over a year recently reached out to me. Ripped directly from the e-mail he sent me:

Ed mentioned that while they are there, they will POSSIBLY make some sort of announcement. There's nothing to demo, but he will be making a statement. It might be as simple as "We are currently working on Mortal Kombat 11" or detailed enough to give some hints of the story. Either way, excitement coming soon!

Other than that statement no other information was given to me. He's been very guarded since his KP3 mistake (as it turns out, Carlos Pesina WAS in fact doing mocap for a Mortal Kombat character, but it was for Sub-Zero in Injustice 2) and apologized for the misinformation. He believes that some of the information he received was actually part of the conceptual planning stages of MK11. As for whether there was a KP3 that got scrapped, he said that there was never any further work planned to his knowledge.

I take it with a grain of salt because he has been wrong before, which makes me question his role over at NRS (Junior Dev) and it has been a long time since I spoke to him. But I don't think something as simple as an announcement about the next game at the panel is far fetched.

At Kombat Kon, I got the sense that a new MK was probably in development, but nobody actually confirmed anything obviously, just a mix of educated guesses based on previous release schedule and wishful thinking. Ed Boon did change his Twitter avatar to the MK logo with 25 on it, so at least we can hold out hope for some kind of hints on October 8th!

It would be cool to get an announcement of anything MK related. We all know MK will come but a name would be nice MKXI or since MKXL was used could have a sub title like the 3d era.

Fun in and Sarena are my main hopefully picks

Here's a video the guys at Netherrealm did to commemorate the 25th Anniversary. So far the panel from NYCc hasn't been uploaded to my knowledge, but they said it will be soon. Now if you watch that video, Ed Boon, John Vogel, Carlos Pesina and Steve Beran all give teases about the possibilities for the future of MK

I'm wondering if that was the supposed "announcement" re: MK11. When they said "but we've already said too much", that of course indicates "Yes, we're working on MK11 but we have nothing to say yet" so there you go.

Wish I was there for the panel though.

Still waiting for the panel to be uploaded! Would be sweet if they'd do both MK11 and Shaolin Monks 2 to celebrate the anniversary

Why would there ever be a need for a sequel to Shaolin Monks?

I don’t think we need a Shaolin Monks 2 myself but man we need a new adventure game in same fashion as Shaolin Monks. Maybe give the Special Forces idea another go and make a Sonya/Jax team-up game. Or reimagine Mythologies for the new time line.

I think the desire for a new adventure game is there, especially since the Konquest modes of Deception and Armageddon don’t look like they are ever coming back (the last five games have all been strictly cinematic story modes). But yeah a new adventure game doesn’t have to feature Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Personally I don’t mind the Kombat Kids from MK X and I think their group of four would make for a good cast for a spin-off action/adventure title.

A new Mortal Kombat adventure game would be awesome especially with how amazing open world games are nowadays. There is so much potential. I really want to see a sequel to MKX because I’m curious to see what happens with evil Liu Kang and Kitana, I’ve been waiting for them to turn bad for a long time. But sometime in the future, NRS should definitely do an open world adventure MK game.

The best thing at the 25th anniversary comic con you have not mentioned,

John TOBIAS was there next to Ed. BOON.

If this was only a hint that they will work together on MK11...
