Mk11 variations differ from mkx. In mk11 it seems as though each variation the characters has a different costume...
yes, you are able to mix and match by creating your own custom variation, so you are not tied to any one costume/variation combo. Which is great.
my question, (& I want to hear your thoughts) is: are we seeing all of the alternate costumes for each player already? Have we seen all 3 of subby’s costumes for instance?
Typically a character gets a primary and alternate in all previous mk games... but now there are 3. Again, that’s great! But it’s strange seeing all of the alt costumes before release.
so what do you think? Are we seeing all of the alts ahead of release? Or will we see more??
There's definitely more skins to unlock. The character customization is an important aspect of the game, so I'm expecting a good amount.
The game has character progression towers that have various rewards such as gear and skins. At the reveal event you could unlock a skin for Raiden from these towers for example, it looks a a mixture of his default costume and his 3rd costume in yellow and black. You can see it here: http://www.accelerated-ideas.com/news/mortal-kombat-11-how-to-unlock-alternate-skins-and-costumes.aspx
Exactly how many the base game has is unknown. I expect a lot more of them will be coming as DLC also.
Most characters have 3 probably, but Sub and Scorp probably have 20 both.

thanks for the link.. a good bit of information there, so it sounds like we will have unlockable color swap skins predominantly but will probably have additional alts for some characters that are also unlockable.
haha yeah, you’re probably right.. I’m a subby main so that’s fine by me!
while on the subject of alts... since mk11 seems to have the theme of 3 distinct alts for each base variation... we are seeing old, young, revenant, before burns, dark vs light Raiden, etc, etc...
... my dream of having a human skin reptile might be possible.. (even though I think he is sitting this roster out, I’m praying for DLC).. or at least could be a secret unlockable skin.. mmmm
There will be alternate skins. According to Ed that was one of the major reasons why they transitioned away from the Injustice 2 gear system. Players want their costumes to match up and since the game is going to be heavily focused on customisation it makes to sense to have more skins. Even the Battlepasses have cosmetics, probably skins to unlock.

Tyler implied they'll have more than 3 in the Kombat Kast, because he actually said, something along the lines of "We'll probably only show you about 3" ... suggesting, ya'know... there are more than 3.
In the reveal day build, each character had 3 unique skins, and each of those 3 skins came in 4 unique colors (for 12 total)
NOW... the real question is, what does Tyler (and/or Netherealm) define as a skin? I personally don't think color variants should count, but that could be all Tyler was referring too. Because certainly, if color variants are taken into consideration then each character has WAAAY more than 3 skins. By that definition, every character had 12 skins on reveal day.
But in my opinion, a color variant is just a color variant, and each character only had 3 skins on reveal day.
ANYWAY... I'm sure there's more than what we've seen, either way. We even have an example: Scorpion was in his classic MK3 outfit in the original trailer we saw months ago, yet we have yet to see that outfit in-game. Clearly it will be unlockable in some shape or form (meaning Scorpion will have at least 4 unique skins)
Given the nature of the time travel story, combined with the new customization features, I could EASILY see NRS going all-out on classic skins in this game. Wouldn't surprise me at all if many or all characters got one.
They'll probably continue to patch new ones in in updates too, frankly. Color variants at the very least. Not just as DLC, but as tower rewards and such. Color variants aren't hard to create.

yes, this is what I mean... thanks for clarifying. You did it more eloquently thanI haha. “Color variants vs skins”
and you are 100% correct, I did not factor in the reveal trailer scorpion Klassic skin. He has the mask available in the current build (because that portion of his skin is customizable) but not the rest of the get up.
