To be fair, I do think that was also in response to Dynasty’s video where he said “Boon kind of implied that all fan favorites would be relegated later down the line as DLC.”

Boon called that BS and said the main game has “TONS of classics.”

So maybe it’s one part D’Vorah, one part Dynasty’s video that he was responding to. Either way, Boon seems to be reassuring fans quite a bit, which seems completely ridiculous to me. He shouldn’t have to. It’s not like the roster’s going to be 26 versions of Mokap lol.

A guy in the kombat kast already confirmed that the story will revisist events in MK1-3, so the roster sort of reveals itself.

I doubt it, but this might be the first game since MK9 where we get Kitana, Mileena, and Jade. Personally, I'd rather Mileena take a backseat for this game, but I'll wait and see how the roster unfolds.

I'm very happy so far (spare for that stupid Cassie Cage reveal), the only things that will really hurt my feelings are no Jade, Noob and Rain in this game. And another Briggs Family trailer, I will not even watch that stupid shit. So I hope Boon isn't talking about Jax being one of those Classic returning in the main roster. Jax should retire, even in a time-event storyline.

I'm assuming that by classic fighters he's refering to MK1-3 lads so yeah, wasn't very necessary.

I actually started to watch that Dynasty vid and got annoyed and clicked out of it when he took what Boon said and purposefully misinterpreted it just to get clicks. Was happy to see Boon call him out on his bullshit.

Not surprising and it's really insane Boon has to say this after revealing D'Vorah who is just awesome. See why NRS is not taking as much risk as you might like, so much backlash from fans over a great reveal? Fans whining about a stale roster or too many earthlings should just shut it, including myself as MK fans are just too toxic out there. That being said, I think with D'Vorah, potentially Kotal & Black as well as some more kids that maybe a Jax, Smoke, Noob or Jade are up for DLC rather than main.

Dynasty is likely correct.

"Classic" and "fan favorite" are not exactly the same. Classic pretty much means old, which means characters from the first three games. Fan favorites are characters with fanbases, and that could be from any game. Ed Boon specified "classic" for that reason, but he refuted Dynasty's comments at the same time to keep fans from getting riled or upset. However, I'm not foolish enough to believe fan favorites from MK4, Deadly Alliance, or Deception are going to be packing slots in the main roster.

I'm not exactly upset, though. I'm hopeful at least a few 3D era characters will make it in.

So where does that leave all of us, the ones who want 3D era charcaters like Reiko, Fujin, Tanya, Kenshi, Frost, Li Mei, Drahmin, Havik, Ashrah, Onaga, Daegon, Taven, Sareena???

People need to cherish this roster as all of fan favourites talk is actually implying this one is for you so shut up now and don’t cry when they don’t make MK12. I think if NRS really went with a roster solely based on what they wanted, say goodbye to Baraka, Skarlet, Kabal, Jade, Rain and such.

I especially liked when Boon said, “Come on Dynasty, you’re better than this.” I smirked and said to myself, “nah, he’s really not”.

I compare youtubers like Dynasty to some of the worst stuff you’ll see on NRS message boards, just presented in 1080p HD video. The scary part is the amount of people that takes his word as gospel. Hence, the reason Boon had to stop what he’s doing just to call him on his B.S.

I want some of those guys as well (especially Havik, my main in MKD and a personal favorite) but it's unlikely. By the way, I don't think Kenshi belongs to that list given that he has been in 5 of the last 6 instalments.

I would like to have Kitana jade & Mileena on the roster as well.. but I can’t help thinking that since skarlet is already there we are not going to get Mileena or jade.

I'm already saying goodbye to Tanya, Quan Chi, Kai, Jarek, Fujin, Reiko, Mavado, Li Mei, Nitara, Frost, Drahmin, Blaze, Hotaru, Dariou, Kira, Shujinko, Ashrah, and Tremor.

Saying goodbye to five more won't mean anything to me at this point.

Again? They just did that 2 games ago. They've clearly run out of story ideas at this point.

Really, it's worse. They don't want to go beyond MK3. Hell, the fact that MKX hardly acknowledged the events of MK4 despite Shinnok being the boss was evident enough.

If they could just look forward. Those were some great storylines in the 3D era. I know the gameplay wasn't always great, but the stories.... they were the best writing!

Sub-Zero discovering his heritage as a cryomancer in the high mountains of Outworld, Scorpion becoming Champion of the Elder Gods and then turning against them, the Deadly Allaiance of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, the undefeatable mummified army of the Dragon King, the Armageddon prophecy, the Edenia-Outworld Ward and its descriptions of batlles between Kitana, Goro, Baraka, Bo'Rai Cho, Mileena posing as Kitana and ruling Outworld, Shujinko's and Taven's quests.....

It really is disheartening to see years of story progressions for our favorite characters flushed down the shitter. MK11 will no doubt be a super-fun game, but in terms of the story I'm keeping my expectations nearly non-existent.

Not all the writing in the 3D Era was great. Reptile devolving into a slobbering overgrown iguana loyal to Shao Kahn was a horrible step back just so you could introduce Onaga. How about Li Mei being played like a complete chump by the Deadly Alliance and then Mileena? The Red Dragon fizzling out from Threatening New Clan to Daegon's Lackey Squad? Goro walking back his story development and alliance with Kitana all so he can be Shao Kahn's guard dog in Armageddon. Oh and let's not forget the bad bits of Konquest with Shujinko.

As far as classics go all I want is Reptile. Sure there are some others I would enjoy seeing back but Reptile is one of my mains and if we're having the full Kotal Squad again he should be there.

But I'm 75% sure he's not making the cut for 11 anyway and that's fine...just don't treat him like Baraka in MKX.

NRS is pretty arrogant about their ability to tell a good story, so I don’t think they will ever nail it but they might get it right this time. The fans need to acknowledge that MK9 was a terrible story in particular, much worse than MKX. Just because it had all trilogy characters doesn’t mean it was all that.

I'll be the first to acknowledge 9 isn't great. But X is bad too and some decision hurt a lot of characters growing popularity like Cassie, Kotal, Erron and Dvorah. Also Shinnok, He spends a majority of X trapped in an amulet.

There were some good parts in 9, X and the 3D era sure but rather than call it perfect I think it was a mixed bag.

9's story was crappy, but that stupid SOAP opera called X was MUCH worse. The only parts of X I enjoyed were the parts in outworld, where those stupid kids weren't involved. The worst chapter was the one with Sub-Zero fighting all these stupid seedlings.

I'm really not fond of this take at all and feel like it was perpetuated by the dorks like Razor who had obsessed over every little detail of the 3D era. The vast majority of the complaints centred around the fact that it wasn't an exact retelling (which NRS clearly didn't want to do anyway)

MK9 was fine. It established "this is a new timeline" while still keeping the majority of all the old and necessary elements that make MK.

MKX on the other hand... It served it's purpose but it felt rushed and they massively underpowered a fallen Elder God so they could shoehorn in an unnecessary macguffin for an unnecessary protagonist.

I'm really looking forward to seeing where MK11 ends up going. Hopefully they merge the old with the new, seal off the old Armageddon plot so the story can move in a new fresh direction in the future.

Man....MK9 was just taking the bios from MK1 to MK3 and making a game out of them . They had already done Shaolin Monks, they pretty much took the scenes from there and remodelled them a bit. Changed a few things here and there.

But it wasn't a new story. It was no imagination at all. MK9 was not a story at all, it was a retelling.
