I'm a life long fan, but largely skipped over MKX due to life, but I've been playing 11 hard! It's amazing. Great to see the community still active, I was watching one of Tabmok99's YouTube videos and was reminded of the site. I first joined in the MK5.Org days and remember all the hype around the first Scorpion/Jax render. Good times.

Good to see you again, EvilSammy. MK definitely has evolved since our olden days... some for the better, some not so much. Maybe its because I was still a "kid" back then, but I feel like the marketing of MK is less exciting. I think too much is revealed these days, and there is less teasing and speculation. Or I'm just not part of it anymore now that I'm a busy adult.

I bought MK11 and have barely played it now that I'm in my 30s. I think once I finally finish school and get my doctorate, I will have some dedicated time for kombat......... but then again I have kids of my own now.... I'll always be lurking around online, though. It's a habbit that won't die.

I think it's miles better than MKX and I would say it's probably the best in the franchise.

But there are some aspects I despise about the game- mainly that you have to always be online in order to truly enjoy the game. That, I personally cannot stand.

Aside from that, It's a wonderful game. So yes, it has brought me back somewhat. I barely played MKX...

Hands down, best MK since MK2 for me.

played mk2 in the arcades when I was 20.

MK11 is lot of fun and I can’t understand the hate going around. MKX was way to hectic and juggle fest. It’s good to see how I’m progressing gameplay wise. Didn’t had any chance in the gauntlet towers and online now I’m beating some youngsters where I’ve got no chance in the beginning. It’s like anything else in life, you have to learn and practice to get better. It’s not the game which is bad mostly it’s the one who is on the controller:)

nice to see some old mk veterans on the forum

cheers

I thought mkx bring me back after mk3. but yes, the juggle fest of mkx was really annoying af. Why They made a game like this? What's the point? Watching characters popped around in the air????

I love the balance of mk11 in the sense of combo-learning and strategical play. I never junked a game like mk11 in the last 10 maybe 15 years.

Definitely back XD

i am actually on the opposite side of the spectrum, there are some changes that i find unforgivable. particularly what they did to my all time favorite character, but i wont delve deeper then that.

Yeah being an adult with children definitely cuts down on the time for video games. In think this is the first full priced game I've bought in years.

I feel the same way about the mystique around the games. They've definitely tried to keep that feel with the series, but with today's marketing and game structure, we can't even have hidden characters anymore. ????

I played MKX for a total of maybe two weeks. Then, never touched it again. I was very disappointed with it, and was patiently awaiting for the next instalment. Gotta say, the wait was worth it. MK11 is the best game in the series, up there with MK9 and MK2 for me. The story is a bit lacking, but the gameplay is super fun and addicting.

For me MK9 is still my favorite of all the new games. MKX was okay but I didn't like the variations of fighters. MK11 is cool but the things I don't like having to grind and grind to unlock items in a game or spend real money to buy in-game money like "Time Crystals"

What is back about MK11 is that the currency you really need never builds up quite fast enough or not at all. Injustice 2 had a similar problem. Right now I'm back to playing old school MK like MKII, UMK3 or MK Gold as some of the examples. Trilogy is by far the best of the original 3 from the CD based games. The N64 wasn't too bad but the audio was chunky and it lacked characters.

What I wish could happen is that in MK11 is rather than have money build up it would be better if the other currencies would build up just as good. It is all just an opinion. Unsure at this point if I'll move onward with Mortal Kombat 12 (if made) or not?

i used to play mk since the Atari days, and the first mk ive played when my dad decided to get a pc in the house at the time was mk4 and i loved it so much. mk11 feels like an injustice game but some how its staying true to the mortal kombat essence of it and i've been enjoying it abit too much.
So this is an old fan coming back to the series after being disappointed by mk x.

Welcome back, Sammy! I'm the idiot who bought MK11 on launch day but still hasn't played it for no good reason. But I've been consistently playing all the new games whenever they come out, even if I'm not active on the forums. I much prefer the IRC chat still.

Since the Atari days? Like the 2600 days? I think that's a bit way far back before MK.

As for the topic. It bought me back, but now I've kinda put it down. I've definitely played so much of it, all trophies, etc. That im looking for more modes I guess. Burnt myself out on it

I've been diehard since Mortal Kombat was eating my quarters back in '92, though my interest was fleeting throughout the 3D era, which I felt absolutely sucked. I did feel that MK, MKX and MK11 was a natural, fluid evolution of the game series and loved each installment.

I'm not an "old timer" on the forums. I only know about them because IRL buddy Shang_Heihachi, who is a veteran of this site since the Gamers.com days, turned me on to it during MKX. He largely avoids forum in general since he generally hates internet fandom BS, but I know for a fact he's been playing MK11 pretty hardcore and has been "lurking" on the forums, something he hasn't done in years. It was his idea for me to start the Brutality thread, which sadly hasn't gained any steam or active contributions, and wasn't pinned by mods. The fan community seems more inactive than ever.

Oh yeah I’m old school but I lurked on this site long before I contributed.

Im the same as TS; it’s not that I didn’t like MKX; I think the Johnny Cage parts early on and the Scorpion and Sub-Zero meeting are outstanding. Life was a bit busier for me then so I didn’t really spend time on X, played story, barely touched the Krypt. Just played the ladder mostly

11 is better for me for sure. I prefer the fighting engine, I prefer the Fatal Blow meta, I prefer the art style (color!). The story mode is a Flawless Victory to me

I’m happy about it too that apparently this game is going to be worked on and improved for a longer time than X

@frabn What’s the Brutality thread? About if I may ask, I’ll look for it later. I sort of suck at Brutalities. The only one I consistently do is Johnny Cages classic uppercut head decapitation

Ha I’m a little surprised you and me usually agree but we are polar opposite about the Story Mode. I wonder why AgentK didn’t like it I loved it

The opening almost made me cry (almost!). The mode now gives you the occasional choice of fighter (making it replayable). And while I could see that there were characters sort of just there (Kollector is a jabroni), the final act of the thing to me is almost like a Shaw Brothers kungfu movie.

If i was back home i would've sent you some pictures of the broken tapes that have had MK on them, but too late as i've moved out almost 5 years ago, thats some new info for ya i guess :D

but ay as for the topic, i get the burn out feeling but i've noticed that the design this time is all about online play.

I never left... I have been an MK fan since the first in the Arcades. I was in Middle School when it came out, and I was in LOVE-- a new type of fighting game I could not resist. I've played every single one of them, and love each in it's own way-- NRS always makes each installment differently than the previous titles.

MK 11 is an amazing piece, and love every aspect of it. I do miss some of my favorites in it: Smoke, Fujin, Sheeva, Havik, Ashrah, Rain, Sektor, Sindel, Li Mei, Shang Tsung, Stryker(yes, I know)--- but some are DLC, and cannot wait to see them in this new MK.

@ballerj91 I created the Brutality thread so that we could post any hidden Brutalities, variations/modifiers, stage Brutalities and "fixed" Brutalities (i.e. correct inputs for Brutalities that have incorrect criteria in-game). Unfortunately only one other person has contributed.

I played MK11 on release like everyday. Now im almost 1 month from playing the game, fing controller died on me :( like the third controller where the D pad stops functioning propelry... gameplay wise, i think Mk11 is almost as good as MK9. Story and roster wise im not very pleased tbh.

It looks like NRS is big fan of the "Game of thrones" series and they take alot of inspiration from it. To the point where the art-direction, characters and converstations are moving abit too far from what i used to like about the MK-Universe. I can understand that devs use inspiration from movies/series they like, but GoT is litterly a whole different theme. I prefer Mk to stay closer to what it used to be inspired from, Big trouble in little China and Shaw Brothers Fantasy martial arts movies etc..

I am at the point to where im getting irrititated with the direction NRS is taking Mk that i have a hard time to enjoy the series beyond the gameplay.

i feel like im hanging in the middle, gameplay wise i think Mk is getting really good, but for the rest, things that made me a fan of the universe are getting worse.

Yeah after this game launched this place really quieted down. I expected things to pick up again once people had their time with their new toy but, I guess people are just going quiet again until MK12 starts its hype cycle.

I'll say this though, I miss folks from back when this site was more active. People like Ice Baby, Jaded Raven, Quev, and Razors Edge, Cassleman. There are more but the names slip my mind.

Man Quev sure did love his Sonya. I wonder what he thinks of her these days.

Man, I even miss Chrome. The dude destroyed my confidence more than once and could be a bit difficult at times but he certainly did offer a unique perspective on things.

Yeah I'm right there with you. I've been here since the hype cycle of Deception back when this place was all red. But with each consecutive release since Armageddon, I feel as though outside of the fighting I am just being pushed further and further away.

That feeling is stronger than ever now with the release of MK11.

Interesting how this place did seem to slow down right back to where it was before MK11 was announced. Where did everybody go? Why so quiet?

As I think about it I’m thinking I’m quiet on it rn too. I love it, play it ever few days for at least 30 minutes. I just don’t have a lot to say about it. Grinding for the costumes I want to have.
