You probably have the "apt pupil" skin already, if so equip it to whatever variation you desire. At the character select screen If you pick that variation with the start button it gives you the alternate color....which is the klassic colors!!!! I was so glad I came across a post somewhere explaing this that I have to share the knowledge.

Does it work with other characters / skins as well?
