Ed's response on Twitter to that "leaked roster" debunking it frankly raised expectations for the roster having some surprises. Talking a lot of smack with that, "wait until you see the REAL roster!" stuff. Anyone else agree?

Let's hope his mouth--or twitter fingers rather--didn't write a check that the game's actual roster can't cash.

Ive taken all of the leaked rosters with a pinch of salt. There have been so many that im sure one of them will end up being at least mostly accurate.

Most only have 4 new characters, which i dont think is enough, and 7/8 of the mkx newbie returning which is probably too many.

Boon is a known twitter troll and is always going to say how awesome things are. He probably still thinks the mkx roster was awesome and that people loved all the guest dlc, which is far from the truth.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some shockers with this roster. Someone in another thread mentioned seeing the Great Kung Lao given the timeline manipulations at hand which hadn't occured to me before but would be really cool.

I do not agree. I think Ed was just debunking the leaked roster and nothing more. The person he was replaying to said he knew the roster of the game and Ed just wait till you see the real roster, ie the leaked roster is wrong. I do not think there was anything else he meant.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. There’s always gonna be those out there that allow themselves to get pumped up over nothing. Not much you can do about that. But Ed is not stoking those flames by simply debunking a “leaked” roster.

Fair enough. Sometimes you can read things into just text that weren't really intended so I could have taken him the wrong way.

Yooo, that would be so awesome if the Great Kung Lao was in MK11.

As cool as this would be for us MK1-MK2 fans the only way i'd be okay with his inclusion is if both Kung Jin and Kung Lao sit MK11 out mostly because he would play no different than default Kung Lao since GKL is his ancestor

Yeah I think his statement there was less “just wait until you see what we’ve cooked up” and more “once you see the actual roster, you’ll see just how wrong this supposed leak actually was.”

Side note, I’d love to see MKO do a sort of “guess the roster” contest where people put in their picks for the final roster and the six DLC and whoever’s closest wins something like a bump in rank and a trophy pic next to their name on the front page or whatever. One point for every right answer. I think that’d be fun.

I'm not sure. It's really hard to tell with Boon being such a Twitter troll. What I do know is with the timeline storyline being how it is, all cards are on the table for any characters appearing from any game, which is super exciting. Hoping for some Reiko, Havik, Drahmin and Hotaru as those characters had a lot of untapped potential imo.

I believe Boon is talking about the number of characters. Everyone is expecting a base roster of 30+ characters. This is very unlikely IMO. I bet they invested lots of development time in the new engine.

What if he's preparing us for another game with only 24 characters + 1 preorder bonus? (Looking at you, MKX) The general belief that they're offering bigger roster with every new game is simply not true. MKX had less characters than MK9 and Injustice: GAU.

Another small roster would mean a big "NO" to most of the less popular characters (especially the 3D era ones), mentioned in any "leak" so far. Hence his tweet. Hence the increased amount of characters in the first Kombat Pack. I wouldn't be surprised, if we got a total of 30+ characters only after the... inevitable second Kombat Pack.

I must agree here. I think MK11 is shaping up to be something completely different, so the roster might honestly be smaller then what we expect, at least in the lane of older characters. There's not a whole lot of 3D era characters I see making it (save for maybe Fujin?) All of this is likely to make the way for newer ones.

Honestly, Boon debunking the roster has lowered my expectations considerably.

I don't have much faith in him these days, and as such I don't expect him to form a well rounded roster. I pray I am wrong, because I really want to enjoy MK11.

I hope you're wrong because that is extremely disappointing. Also, every subsequent NRS game has had more total characters than the last from MK9 to Injustice to MKX to Injustice 2. If the base roster is only 24 characters the only way that wouldn't be disappointing is if we get two seasons of 6 DLC characters instead of just 6 like some reports seem to indicate. Otherwise that's less characters total than MKX had.

I do not agree with this at all but I see where you are coming from. Looking at their base rosters, yes, it has varied in size but the totals after DLC are where the real growth is. 4, 6, 8 and 9 DLC packages for roster totals of 31, 30, 33 and 38. Also take into consideration that this game was probably potentially made with the whole 25th anniversary aspect on their mind, given the timelines aspect and revisiting the past, so they may go all out just for that reason alone. If we get a smaller roster they may take the SF5 and KI approach of adding constantly over time but however given NRS, and WB's, schedules then we are more likely than not to see their traditional average base roster and a growing list of DLC fighters.

I could be satisfied with a base roster of only 24 or 25 characters IF we do end up getting 12+ DLC characters. The game has gotta at least have more total characters than MKX, if not Injustice 2.

I agree here 100%. The only thing I would like to add is that means the leak was really wrong in one way or another. My guess would be that he is either talking about the number of characters on the roster or the ratio of characters (ie. new chars:MKX noobs:Old-timers)

Also seeing the great kung lao would be awesome too

That is false. MKX has a bigger roster than MK9. MK9 only has 32 characters and that is IF you include kratos on PS4. It has 31 characters playable.

MKX has 33 characters playable IF you include triborg as 1 character which he is actually 4 characters leaving the game at 36 playable characters as he is Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke and Cyber subzero depending on which of the 4 variations you choose. Even leaving him as 1 character, the roster is bigger and the roster has more non playable story characters than 9 did as well. (motoro, goro, kintaro, shao khan) (MKX: baraka,Li mei, Kabal, nightwolf, stryker, sareena, sindel rain, fujin, etc).

MK11 also has the largest DLC out of both games with the kombat pack in MK9 only having only having 4 DLC 1 pack only. MKX having 5 DLC and then 4 DLC in TWO packs and MK11 is starting off its DLC with SIX characters already making it the biggest DLC yet and I suspect they will release a 2nd kombat pack as well with 4-6 characters and a re-release of the game like MKXL.. Expect the roster to be bigger than MKXs. Expect it.

Injustice 2 had 38-50 playable characters.... How can you say MK9 has a bigger roster? lol Injustice 2 has the biggest roster NRS ever had.

The time manipulation stuff seems like an excuse to get all the classic characters in there with a bunch of newbies even if the timeline doesn't make sense. You can also do new stuff with some of the older characters. So you can have a Kenshi that isn't blind, for example, or a more automated Jax. Sindel can be undead or the good queen, and you can play as Hanzo Hasashi or Scorpion. That sort of thing. It wouldn't surprise me if that is a lot of the new. I can see them throwing in Great Kung Lao and Jerrod as past characters to play as, with the Great Kung Lao maybe being an extra skin to Kung Lao or something.

How can you say MK9 has a bigger roster?

Are you able to grasp the difference between the base/starting roster and the complete roster (after DLC)? I doesn't seem so, because I'm pointing this difference and you're twisting my words. Enjoy arguing with yourself.

Speaking of base rosters, MK9 and Injustice 1 did have bigger rosters than MKX. It's an undeniable fact.

the graphics engine looks kind of like MKX with the colors too and same console unlike MK9. I just dont believe the engine is that much different until gameplay shows otherwise. I know it uses a different engine but in the early screenshots, it looks like they went backwards possibly to fit more memory in the game for a bigger roster or lots of gear/skins. Its kind of impossible to tell until january.
