The rumor going around is that Kevin Conroy is doing his voice now. It’s neither confirmed nor denied at this point, though.

You could hear him talk in the intro to his fight with Baraka. It didn't sound like Conroy to me.

Not related to voice acting but my only complaint whatsoever is it looks like Scorpion has to meter burn his spear to get the free hit. That's very problematic for his playstyle and one of the reasons I didn't like him as much in Injustice. Sub-Zero doesn't have to meter burn to freeze but Scorpion has to meterburn to get any combos? Unless I missed something and his other moves combo better. I just REALLY don't want this game to feel as clunky and counter intuitive to combos as the Injustice series is.

Can someone who played the game comfort me that Scorpion can in fact do combos without meter and that the game plays more like MK and not anything like Injustice trash?

This is my biggest fear and I saw some of the things you saw and then some. I couldn't stand Injustice because of the meter-burn requirement for moves like Scorpion's Spear. Many of the combos demonstrated in the videos, aside from a 20-hit monster by Sonya, all seemed to be short strings with little to no juggling. shujinkydink, an up-and-coming YouTuber, confirmed that launchers/pop-ups have essentially been eliminated and the ones that do exist require meter. He said that he played multiple characters for around 40 minutes and the biggest combo be did was ~380, which, given that the life bars seem to be 1000 hit points, is a solid combo that does a very respectable 38% damage. I just hope that zoning isn't the focal point of combat as it is in Injustice 2. That aspect of the game made it so damn boring that, even when I wanted to get into it and learn a character, I lost interest and found myself playing MKX instead. Hell, for me at least, even Injustice tournaments were better suited as a sleep aid as opposed to a source of entertainment.

I'm not going to go AWOL until I see a lot more gameplay footage. I will admit that, what with the vast differences between MK9 and MKX, I very much disliked MKX at first. MK11 seems much slower than MKX and more like Injustice, which may just mean that the pace is more along the lines of MK9 than MKX. My overall opinion will be based on what I see over the coming weeks and months. Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed.

Meter burn requirement sucks. I hope it doesnt apply to most characters. Kinda kills creative gameplay.

It does not sound Kevin Conroy at all.

In my opinion, it's not like something as trivial as a character's voice matters in a game in which the fight is the focus. I could barely if at all notice a difference in the voices of characters, Scorpion and Sonya included. If a voice actor matters to you (or anyone else) that much, go back and play something like "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver" or one of many action-adventure titles ("Horizon Zero Dawn", for example) in which the telling of a story is the focal point and gameplay is secondary. Mortal Kombat isn't known at all for moving voice acting or dialogue, MK9 and MKX included. Personally, I feel as though voice acting in this series has always been second-rate at best, yet I manage to enjoy it for a lengthier extent of time than most games with critically-acclaimed voice acting because of the addictive gameplay and unique perspective from a fighting game standpoint.

According to Super, another YouTuber, the meter-burn requirement for Scorpion's spear does not apply to Sub-Zero's freeze. According to him, you can use the freeze mid-combo without burning a bar of meter.

I hated Scorpion in "Injustice" because his spear couldn't be used as a quick re-stand without burning meter. I know that I'll get used to it in time given that Scorpion's been my main since '92, but it just sucks that nothing that I learned from a previous title applies to the sequel. It'd be nice to play a character and know that you'll be able to perform at least one of your kombos from one game to the next. Instead, it's back to the drawing board yet again, I reckon.

Yeah in that same video Super was laughing at how he couldn't believe just "how hard they completely fucked Scorpion over" in this game. He's my main since '92 as well and aside from Injustice I can't remember being this distraught over something they did for him. Why is there not more outcry from Scorpion fans demanding they flip his meter burn with the default spear so he's not shit tier?
