.. they shared my opinion and fear....

IGN:

"Some of these items can be unlocked by playing through the story mode, but most are obtained through the Towers of Time and the Krypt, two modes that go hand in hand. Mortal Kombat 11’s Krypt, like those in previous Mortal Kombat games, is a sprawling dungeon filled to the brim with treasure chests that require some sort of currency to open. This time around the loot is randomized, which is a big problem because of the fact that there’s just so much undesirable loot. You may open up an expensive chest hoping to find a new Fatality, skin, character intro, or Brutality, and wind up with just a bunch of gear augments for a character you don’t use, junk tower consumables, concept art, or some extra currency. There are some cool puzzle-solving elements and neat Easter eggs to find in the Krypt, but it’s basically an explorable dungeon of lootboxes and occasional jump scares, and that’s a disappointment.

Then there’s the Towers of Time, which is a collection of challenge towers unified by some sort of theme, and it’s in this mode that Mortal Kombat 11’s biggest problems lie. Some of the towers employ modifiers that make fights actively un-fun to play. Imagine trying to win a fight against an opponent who starts with twice your health, while also having to deal with a constant torrent of projectiles and assist characters. Or an opponent who will shock you for standing close to them for more than a second or two. It’s a challenge, yes, but one that’s more frustrating than fun."

ShackNews:

"With multiple variation slots and the ability to customize any fighter's standard look, NetherRealm is offering dozens of unlockable outfit pieces through the Krypt and through the constantly-rotating Towers of Time. The problem is that getting to everything the game has to offer is a brutal grind. After over 20 hours of playtime, it feels like I'm just scratching the surface of what the Krypt has to offer.

If it was just coins that unlocked items in the Krypt, that'd be one thing, but MK11 introduces multiple currencies and keeping track of those is a chore in itself. Some chests are tied to other currencies, with the "hearts" standing out, in particular. There are chests in the Krypt that cost 250 or more hearts, which is fine and all, except hearts are unlocked one at a time over the course of natural gameplay by performing a Fatality. A few more are available by completing Towers of Time, but the whole thing feels set up for microtransactions, which weren't available at the time of this review. While it's theoretically possible to earn everything via natural gameplay, the process is so slow that it feels like it's geared towards pushing people into going the microtransaction route."

Gamespot:

"Some modifiers in the Towers Of Time can affect both you and your opponent equally, like a tilting stage that drains the health of whoever is lower. But more often, the challenges I took on featured negative modifiers that solely affected me, which means they felt horribly cruel and unbalanced. No matter how good you think you are at Mortal Kombat (or how bad you think I am), trying to fight an opponent where you're constantly being targeted and shot and frozen in place by devastating lasers from the sky, or being chased by missiles that turn your screen pitch black if one hits you, is a rotten experience. Being the loner in a 2vs1 match, or fighting a much hardier opponent whose attacks can't be interrupted, is more of an exercise in frustration than it is a hearty challenge.

To overcome the more challenging Towers Of Time, MK11 encourages that you make liberal use of "Konsumables," a large variety of limited-use items that you can equip and activate during a fight. These have their own individual properties, whether it be countering a particular modifier effect, or giving you access to an additional ability. The catch is, the way that you obtain these Konsumables is through luck, perhaps earning one through completing other towers, or spending "Koins" you've accumulated from the game's activities to open one of hundreds of randomized chests in the Krypt, MK11's third-person quasi-puzzle-adventure mode designed for unlocking collectables like cosmetics, concept art, and countless other bits and pieces."

They speak right at the bottom of my heart. To be honest.. I am a little bit disappointed. I have almost no motivation. It was always fun to unlock fatalities and brutalities in the krypt but in MK11 it is just roulette. For two days! I invest a huge amount of koins and get two brutalities! (but a ton of skins and gems)... lol... And the best thing is... to earn these koins you need to finish the towers of time which are ridiculous difficult. I wait now a week, if NRS is changing the difficulty and some rnd stuff in the krypt, then I keep the game. If not, then i sold it. Right now I am more frustrated than motivated. This is really sad because the game itself is great... You think I am whining about nothing? In a few days you can see for yourself.

The towers of time can be frustrating yes but hasn’t spoiled my enjoyment of the game. As of tomorrow I’ve owned it a week and still loving it! Annoying that the Krypt is random as I sent my friend the co-ordinates yo some Sonya brutalities I found. He’s gonna be pissed lol

Honestly with all the incomplete games publishers are releasing these days (Anthem etc.) and then adding micro transactions on top. I don’t mind giving NRS an extra $10 to unlock everything in the Krypt. I know they worked hard on releasing a complete game upfront. And throwing a little more money their way to help fund future games/content is all good imo.

^ That money isn’t going to the hardworking developers, artists, etc. at NRS. It’s going to WB and their share holders.

I wasn't too worried as the game isn't officially released, and big launch day patches are common these days. I have a hunch they deliberately increased costs and tower challenge so people with early copies couldn't unlock everything before launch. Or, maybe they got too greedy trying to frustrate players to buy time krystals. Either way, they are adjusting the issues -- let's hope it resolves the complaints.
