I always wanted them to include the Sonya and Kano interaction they have in the movie, from the point where Kano pulls out his knife.

I wish, but if they won't even include Techno Syndrome in the games at this point, the piece of music everyone associates with this franchise, then I doubt it. Besides they reworked Kanos' and Sonyas' back story in MK9 to where he was an informant who betrayed her so the "put a big smile on your partner" line wouldn't really make sense.

At the very least NRS give us this.

Kano: Give it up baby I've studied all your moves!

Sonya: Yeah, well study this!

Then again I can only imagine how flaccid that line would be coming from Miss Domestic Abuse Rousey.

Damn do I miss Bridgette Wilson!

Yeah, probably indeed low chance, especially considering the rework on the backstory. But then again, Johnny Cage's triple head fatality, the second failure is also a quote from the movie.
They could adjust the text a bit (could have given someone else that "smile"). Or still, even if Kano was an informant betraying her, he still could have killed her partner in the process.
"Study this!" I like that one too :). But I just like it the way Kano says "It did put a big smile on your partner though... ear....sshhhhhhh...to ear".

I actually find it funny for mysel. When the movie was coming out the first time, I expected it to be the actors of the game and follow it to a tee. So although I liked the movie, I was a bit bumped by the initial actors and also the lack of "real violent fatality's". But the actors grew on me very quickly and actually liked all of them. Too bad Trevor Goddard died, because I think it is still the best representation of Kano, accent and all. I don't like Kano's accent in MK11 at all (don't know if he's trying to be Goddards Kano or Captain Jack Sparrow). And comparing it with Aussie Trevor Goddard, it's all the more obvious. I wish they had some way to "copy" Trevor Goddards voice.

Make Kano English again!

Movie version is best version. Only time I've ever found Kano remotely interesting. Kinda sad they gave the movie and Trevor Goddard the finger instead. :(

Gave him the finger? What do you mean? He still bears likeness to Trevor. I haven't heard his dialogue though, is he not still an Aussie?

Trevor Goddard is English and portrayed an English Kano. With a VERY English accent. Doesn't even sound remotely Australian in any way.

Supposedly, as a direct result of his much loved performance, the game devs made Kano Australian. That's not a homage - it's an insult.
Or maybe the devs are paying homage to the meme of American's mistaking him for Australian? But then that's still not a tribute to Trevor, it's a tribute to a meme.

It's on record that Trevor was putting on a Australian accent to cover up his cockney accent in the movie though. That's why they made Kano an Aussie.

They're honoring his portrayal of their character.

It's just an obscure production fact about the movie. I'm not exactly what wording to use to bring up the list of movie facts but it's out there. Don't exactly have the time to look it up right now.

Why do people expect/assume the Outback Aussie accent when they talk about Aussie accents?

I'm not. I lived and studied in Aus for 5 years (cities, not outback). My wife is an Aussie and I have plenty of Aussie friends. There isn't even a HINT of an Aussie accent in the movie.

Really? Strange, I have never heard somebody make this argument before. Goddard's Kano accent sounds similar, to me, to MMA fighter Mark "The Super Samoan" Hunt, who either has resided in New Zealand or Australia for the majority of his life (sorry dunno which one).

Trevor Goddard was English-born and raised, but he always felt Australian and he was about to ask Australian citizenship/ or just obtained it can't remember, need to check this one.

That's the reason why Kano has been made Australian all of a sudden.

Also, it was a tribute made when Trevor was still alive, the retcon has been made in 2002, Trevor died one year later.

I think that Japanese-American Kano with Eastern Martial Arts background was way better but after Trevor's death I understand why they chose to keep it.

Maybe the confusion is also because of the way a Cockney accent and Aussie accent bare similarities. And English and Aussie are mostly differentiated by their vocabulary.
I have travelled/backpacked through Australia 2 times. And although my English was good, sometimes I was like "What?" because of a single word that was typical to Australia. Words like "ankle-biter" and such. Cities were closest to the british accents, but not the "posh" kind of the english accents we mostly hear in movies. Simple words like "No"/"Nah" and "mate" I found to be the more apparant give-aways.
Kano's script didn't have that much text and especially none of where typicial Australian words would come through. And with Cockney accents, you mostly think of Jason Statham. I think it is safe to say, if you have Statham and the end of a Cockney accent and Hugh Jackman at the end of an Australian accent, Trevor falls somewhere in the middle?

That's just my two cents, from looking a bit up of Cockney accents and my experience in Australia. But during backpacking, you come accross so many people and locations, after awhile you just get used to it. Just in Sydney alone I came accross several accents. But then again, Sydney alone is as big as the whole Belgium country is and we also have a lot of different accents in such a tiny country.

Good post sir, excellent point particularly about the vocabulary ("mate" for example, Kano never does say in the movie).

It's sad to learn Goddard passed away. I wasn't aware of this until this thread. His Kano was probably my dad's favorite part of the movie, his fight with Sonya especially.

"Mate" is just as common, if not more so, in England. Despite Australians trying to claim it as uniquely their own.

And "posh" English accents are quite rare too. Only specific regions have it, betwen the Midlands and London.
Go up north to Yorkshire or Tyne & Wear and you get different dialects that make Australians seem posh / use more standard English.

Australia is actually becoming more American / Less "British" too with their vernacular.

With "mate" I was referring to recognizing the difference the english sounding "mate" and the australian sounding "mate", not that it wasn't common to use in England.

I think "americanization" is about everywhere these days. Even in our language it has soaked in that people don't even know what the Dutch word is for certain things. For example: instead of using "vergadering" they use "meeting". It "trendy" to do. In the past I didn't care much about language, but the more the english/american language is soaking in our own language, the more I care about "my language" and refuse to bastardize(?) the Dutch language any further.
