(SPOILERS) | Did Kitana really kill Shao Kahn?

Somebody please clear this up for me. She cut across his mouth, didn't look like it killed him. No blood on his throat, didn't look like it was fatal.

Nope she didn't, if you're playing as Kitana in towers many opponents say he escaped (Scorpion, Raiden, Jade...maybe even someone else, I don't remember). But yeah, He's not dead

Character towers have nothing to do with the scripted story though.

Why wouldn't they? They reflect the story pretty well...Dvorah asking why Sub-Zero minds she killed Scorpion, Kotal Kahn wanting to be Kitanas advisor...They wouldn't just mention so many times he escaped and survived if he was dead ????. They'd use different lines mentioning she killed him so he's certainly alive.

But Liu and Kitana are the keepers of time now, so who knows how that will reflect the story in the future

They wouldn't because the character towers are from the perspective of "that" character, as if they were the ones who ultimately beat Kronika, instead of Liu Kang. Their endings show as such because they are the ones who take the power. Jade resets time and becomes a time goddess bringing peace, Scorpion becomes a god and goes on a mission to kill the other titans like Kronika, etc etc.. Certain character endings do expand the lore yes, but they're from a very skewed perspective. Kitana did kill Shao Kahn, granted none of that probably mattered for the ending of the story.. but for the story itself, he died.

Oh wait, I'm not talking about Character endings at all, I'm talking about Intros...these conversations reveal more than you think.

Character intros are also a very messy mashup of past and present versions of characters. Seriously, he's dead. Kitana slit his throat.

Well I just did some digging amd guess what, He's not, she actually just blinded him.

So the "tower" intros are quite right when Scorpion says "don't show mercy next time Kitana". Maybe if you'd play the story once again you'd actually notice she hit his eyes, not his throat.

Blinded? You're joking right?

Ugh... just looked into it myself and apparently the writers said he was indeed blinded. What a crock... they straight make it look as though he breathes his last and then stops moving, period.

Well whatever then. Shao Kahn apparently lives (for whatever lame ass purpose that alludes to).. at the end of the day it still doesn't matter since the timeline resets.

The whole concept of it is stupid though. They have a build up to that.. "surrender or face the consequences" "I won't show mercy this time".. then she slices him up, whole thing is made to look as though he died since his mouth and throat are covered in blood. Then they turn around and say "oh he's blinded because I think it takes more than that to kill him :)" Contradictory writing at it's finest. They should've just had her kill him if the end goal was time resetting anyway.

Oh yeah, I also thought he's dead while playing the story and I found it quite lame that Kitana would kill Shao Kahn so quickly with just a fan slid.

But yeah, the time reset could really mean anything. I guess we'll have to wait and just see how MK story will continue ????. Maybe they won't reset the time and keep the current timeline, who knows ????.

Yeah, she killed him but don't worry - he'll be back. He's the favourite Outworld Emperor of all time so killing him permanently would be beyond ridiculous. We'll see him again siiner than later.

Sorry.. character intros are a mesh up of past, present, and future...

If he was just blinded on the ground - someone - anyone - would run up and make sure he was dead. I don't mean to be racist.. but it's outworld. They'll challenge you to kombat if you look at them the wrong way :P

PLUS.. Liu Kang and Kitana are reshaping realms.. they probably wouldn't have allowed Kahn to return from the dead (given Kronika is dead), so he's dead.

Various kharacter intros refer to story mode in past tense as a kontinuation of the kurrent lore. Bits add to canon.

Stop arguing. MK 11 story writer said that she blinded him. Case closed.

How can anyone say she slit his throat. It's obviously just his face. He will be blind if they come up with a continuing storyline.

Lmao, that is not a trusted source.

While the choice of link is questionable, one of them did confirm it on twitter. I'm not going to bother to find the link because... I don't really care. But yes, she apparently only blinded him. And Kotal apparently recovered from the loss of his legs.

And none of it really friggin matters anyway, because all of reality got wiped out in the final moments of the game, so in the next game, other than "Fire God Liu Kang" every other character is a completely blank slate. And hell, if Cyber Sub-Zero or Dark Raiden are any indication, they'll probably just undo Fire God Liu Kang in the first 10 minutes of MK12.

The real answer is - as with every Mortal Kombat game ever - who lived and who died doesn't matter one iota until they're deciding the roster for the next game.

Since when has being dead ever stopped anyone from coming back in a sequel? Since when has being alive ever guaranteed anyone a spot?

Does it really MATTER if he's blind or dead? He's playable in MK11 either way, and since he's one of many characters wiped off the face of existence by the end of the game, he stands about the same odds of showing up in MK12 either way.

But no, he's blind. They confirmed it. :P

All of you are forgetting that he is an elder god and can't just die by a slit throat or eyes anyway..... He is just wounded lol.

Shao Kahn is not an Elder God.

I don't know if a spoiler tag is really useful if you give away what you are spoiling in the title, haha. Anyway, yes, Kitana did kill Shao Kahn. It wasn't animated the best, but that's clearly what the implication was. They gave the "good" Kitana an opportunity to avenge her real family against the man who killed them and enslaved her in this timeline, probably largely as a gesture to fans who have been sick of her being a damsel-in-distress and feel that taking out Kahn should be her responsibility in the story. That being said, this seemed to wrap-up this timeline's arc, so Shao Kahn is likely to be back in the next game as the ruler of Outworld.

Character intros suggest she didn't kill him, story writers confirming she didn't kill him, I guess that's still enough clues for some people.
